Yours are smarter than mine, then. Mine stand there and watch each other get eaten by predators. I have had to completely fence them into a covered dog run to make it stop lol They also perpetually get trapped on the hinge side of the open gate, utterly unable to figure out how to go through the opening… I have to physically move them or they start panicking.

I had chickens for about 8 months before I gave away the survivors to a coworker. I have learned that chickens can only live safely in the worst locked in conditions, cheaply with a good quality of life with a high death rate, or very expensively with a good quality of life and trying desperately to keep them alive.

The large laying hens are usually dumber due to how deformed they are… The smaller bantams can actually be pretty smart.

The owner used an eye dropper to give it water/food through its neck hole. It still had its brain stem intact so it didn’t die right away. The farmer needed to drain the fluids so the bird doesn’t choke. Once on a tour with the bird he forgot the syringe so the bird simply choked to death.
