I’m confident that nothing will go awry with this setup.

This configuration is certain to go without any issues.

WHY!? THAT TOOK SO MUCH WORK

K
KingDave46 • 147 points
So people don’t rip the doors open at night to steal what’s inside They will remove anything of value every night but a “this vehicle is emptied every night” sticker is only so effective. Eventually you just need people to not break in constantly. Tools are valuable enough to break in to check

C
Coldatahd • 105 points
Yup this is it, I had my van broken into and they stole $400 worth of tools….they did $6k damage to the van getting to those $400 dollars.

J
Julege1989 • 89 points
Yeah, but they got $50 worth of meth for those tools.

Its reasons like these are why truckers leave their trailers open at night if they’re empty, so nobody comes along in the middle of the night and slashes up the side of their trailers for nothing

B
BadAdviceBot • 6 points
yeah, but they come back to find a homeless person in there.

C
certifiedtoothbench • 7 points
And the homeless person finds themselves in another state

Someones going to smash that back window just to find the 80 cents in the glove compartment. You can count on it lmao.

lol no it isnt. that would be a completely idiotic reason to install this setup. the only reason electricians and plumbers have work vans like this in the first place, is bc they need to have hundreds of pounds of tools/equipment with them.. literally no one is spending hundreds of hours loading/unloading all of that shit every single day just so it can be “empty” in the off chance someone wants to break in. that’s why people have insurance, and better yet, typically have somewhere they park at night that isnt just out on the street. the entire point of the van is to store their stuff. not to mention they could just have normal van doors with windows, if they *really* wanted to have people be able to see inside, and would not need to have this idiotic/totally inconvenient patio door setup to achieve that goal this is very obviously some sort of “\#vanlife” project/work in progress, as evidenced by the camper top/solar panels on top. and these doors are to let light in, be able to see views while camping, etc. the lumber and stuff in the back is probably for installing siding in the interioir, building the bed platform, etc

a flying pebble from a lawnmower took out the glass on my sliding doors. Cost $600 to replace 20 years ago..

L
ljgamer1 • 6 points
What’s crazy is, it’s still about that to replace today. 20 years later and I paid just about 600 bucks an opening a few months ago.

H

They’re still renovating

Are people expecting that van the accelerate enough for anything to break plexiglass or for a rear end of it to do more than pop the entire thing out?

C
certifiedtoothbench • 4 points
It’s called a pot hole, babe

F
flogsmen • 6 points
That’s not plexi. One good bump and that door is done.

Look at how reflective and distorted it is That’s not glass, that’s the telltale cheapness of acrylic

When I was growing up we had an RV with a sliding glass door and a fold down porch. It never caused a problem. We also didn’t have a bunch of junk laying around on the floor next to it.

R
RiskyNight • 6 points
The only thing WTF here is why not go with swinging patio doors over sliding. I use the rear doors on mine because I dislike using the factory slider. They have nothing but sliders now.

P
perldawg • 3 points
the slider is cheaper, isn’t it? i’m thinking the cheap and easy fix, if broken, was a big motivator in the choice

R
RiskyNight • 3 points
Seems to me they just wanted to build it into more of a tiny house on wheels rather than a van. It’s interesting.

P
perldawg • 1 points
i think it’s to show potential tool thieves that’s there’s nothing worth stealing in the van. empty the van of valuable equipment, at the end of the day, so thieves don’t break in overnight

R
RiskyNight • 2 points
That would be a pretty wild move instead of just installing the factory windows on the doors.

U
unnoticed_areola • 0 points
lol why do people keep repeating this? its very obviously not true. this is quite obviously someone’s attempt at a hippie van life project with big windows to see views while camping, and a camper top with solar panels on top. this would be a completely idiotic/inconvenient setup for a working tradesman

Cheap vinyl slider $400. Crash and replace. Jet2 holiday
