Last weekend, I decided to try my hand at baking a fancy cake for my friend’s birthday. I meticulously followed a recipe that boasted “easy steps” and watched a few instructional videos, convinced I’d nail this culinary masterpiece. After hours of measuring, mixing, and an accidental flour explosion, I was finally ready to pop it into the oven. The cake rose beautifully, and I couldn’t wait to show off my skills at the party.
As I proudly unveiled my creation at the birthday celebration, the laughter began. It turned out that while my cake looked like an Instagram post waiting to happen, it tasted like a sponge soaked in mayonnaise. A quick taste test revealed I’d accidentally used salt instead of sugar. The unsuspecting guests went from singing “Happy Birthday” to a chorus of “What is this?” and “Did you just sabotage my birthday?” My hopes for a baking career crumbled faster than that cake, leaving me to wonder if perhaps my true calling was just to be the comic relief in the kitchen!

I didn’t anticipate this conclusion.

Q
U selfish cow😭😭
E
that escalated in the most British way possible.
U
VERY British! 🇬🇧😂
Y
british humour doesn’t build tension, it just pulls the rug.
P
This. Came here to say exactly this
O
We need to use cow as an insult more often lol.
R
Hale and Pace were hilarious, havebt watched in years.
P
Do you remember the breathmint adverts? From “da Management”
F
I remember the random pepper grinder sketches, like the parody of When Harry Met Sally. “Ok fine, women *can* fake an orgasm” “Who said I was faking?” *Hale emerges from under the table with a pepper grinder
R
Not specifically, although I do remember there Management. Getting a reliable source to watch them in the colonies was not always achievable. Was much easier to find Python.
K
Absolutely Hale and Pace were effortlessly funny. No overthinking, no preachy bits just pure, stupidly clever sketches.
L
“Here’s one we prepared earlier”
C
The hardest I have ever laughed in my life was watching these two live. They were brilliant.
O
I loved them, they were on late Friday nights in Norway and I waited the whole evening. Brilliant comedians
F
I met them at Alton Towers with their families years ago. Remember thinking it was cool they hung out together in public. Not sure why i thought they wouldnt 😆
D
British comedy is just like Marmite. You’d either get it and like it or you just won’t.
1
But I love British humor. Don’t much care for Marmite though.
C
Marmite slept with my wife
D
That selfish cow
J
Explains the taste
B
It’s no Vegamite
M
Fie, evil wench! Marmite exceeds Vegemite!
K
Prison colony food
T
It’s more or less the same thing. Vegemite is just what the Aussie’s slapped together when they couldn’t get any more Marmite delivered because of the War. (No not that War, the other one.)
S
The Emu war?
I
People need to stop spreading rumours that the Aussies lost the war because the Emus destroyed their Marmite supply lines.
S
Don’t mention the war!
P
What if I think marmite is just alright?
T
There are dozens of us! Dozens!
D
For the redditors who don’t know, can we get a list of peak british comedy? Personally my favorites that would appeal to non-brits are: Fawlty Towers The IT Crowd
S
Only Fools and Horses, Alan Partridge, The Thick of It, Blackadder Brass Eye and Monkey Dust if you like dark humour
S
Nighty Night 💀
C
Classic British comedy. In the sense that it was incredibly depressing.
S
No, British comedy is not depressing, but that was. Not everything needs to be an example of something.
Q
Monty Python, Red Dwarf, Spaced, Harry Enfield and Friends, The Fast Show, Trigger Happy TV, Phone Jacker. Some of them might not have stood the test of time but they were all big and they are all still quoted by certain age groups.
S
You know what Ill fuckin say it Gavin and Stacey was funny. Yeah it had james corden in it and that’s shit but whatever. Its funny as hell.
Q
Lots of people like it. I’ve never seen it but lots of people I’ve met can quote it. It was very popular.
W
All the best IMO are already mentioned, but I would also add Peep Show and Little Britain
A
People just do nothing and the peep show are 2 of the funniest shows ive ever seen in my life
T
Friday night Dinner Peep show
G
Absolutely Fabulous
S
I love Red Dwarf and liked Fresh Meat.
D
New Red Dwarf or Old?
S
Seasons 1 and 2 are my favorite, but it’s pretty solid through like season 5. It started going down when Kochanski came back. I lost all interest when the crew was revived and they were in jail.
S
Absolutely Fabulous
A
Who doesn’t get this?
T
You know, I find myself often loving British comedies. And yet, I never really cared for Mr Bean.
D
Reminds me of a British joke about someone having a marmite personality – half of the people hate them, the other half want them on the end of a knife
R
“That man is wearing a dress…”
M
In other news, I really like Marmite way better than Vegemite (though in a pinch I’ll do either). It’s one of my favorite things and I’m out! Now I got a craving, dammit.
