911: I regret to hear your car was stolen. What color was it?

**What Happened:** Carl woke up one morning to find his prized car missing from the driveway, leaving him in a panic. He quickly dialed 911, his voice shaky with frustration as he reported the theft. “The car is gone! You have to help me!” he exclaimed. After taking a deep breath, the operator calmly asked, “I’m sorry, sir. What color is it?” Without missing a beat, Carl replied, “The color of despair and bad decisions!”

**Why It’s Funny:** The absurdity of the situation turned Carl’s morning tragedy into a comedy of errors. Instead of a straightforward description, he never thought he’d be referencing “despair” in a 911 call about his car. Imagine the operator, diligently taking notes, then stifling a chuckle while trying to maintain professionalism. In that moment, amidst the crisis, Carl realized that even in the darkest times, a little humor can lighten the load—though he still hoped he wouldn’t have to wait long for the cops to find his sad, stolen vehicle!

I saw one of those back in the day and thought it was a custom job the owner did. The found out later that it was a factory thing.

Well holy shit I just found out today! There was a lady who I used to see driving one around town all the time! I always thought it was cool and wondered if she painted it or had all the different body panels replaced haha. I guess it was the Golf linked below though since it was in the US.

I’ve seen a few in the wild and they’re definitely a product of their time.

911: What color is your car? Me: ‘It depends which side the thief is currently standing on.’

Tbh that would be so much better for you. A multicolored car is so much easier to spot than a generic car

Wow… cars are getting bigger or clows are getting smaller… I remember on VW beetles they could hold between 13 and 20 clows…

I was just thinking that. I wondered whether Harlequin was specific to that model of car or whether the word could mean multi-colored in general so I looked it up. Apparently, Harlequin can mean simply “in varied colors; variegated”. I had always only heard it used to refer to the colorful jester – but somewhere on the tip of my mind I think I have heard it used to refer to other multicolored things in general as well. Fun word.

It’s the only car that I know of that was offered that way from the factory, and was the first thing that came to mind when I saw that pic.

What do you think?
