Yet another day of: items I wish were powered by AI.

If anyone wants context: OP: these kind of people are often considered holy and wise in India and people follows them as you can see in the video. Basically something dropped from their hands or they threw it and the man following them picked it up and drank it, Mostly because they think could have holy/ magical properties as it’s been touched by them OP: homelessness intersects with spirituality, particularly through figures like Sadhus (holy ascetics) and monks who embrace a houseless life as a spiritual path, renouncing possessions for liberation (moksha), a tradition seen in Hinduism and Jainism, exemplified by wandering ascetics like the Parivrajaka. Me: what the fuck
K
They would be happy in LA, lots of holy figures to follow
M
No wonder it’s called the city of angels! A bunch of saints over there.
C
“Daddy why do angels smell like poo?”
N
Cleanliness is next to godliness, but to have a deep understanding of that you have to be covered in feces
I
Emptiness is loneliness, and loneliness is cleanliness and cleanliness is godliness, and God is empty…Just like meeee
K
And now that song is stuck in my head. 😂
C
One day, my toddler smeared poo on me, and I understood godliness a little more.
H
I see now why they say roses grow from shit and lotus spring from mud
T
Because: Holy shit!
N
I didn’t find it to be that exactly.
E
Over on Saints Row
G
California is nice to the homeless Californ-ya-ya Super cool to the homeless In the city City of Santa Monica Lots of rich people giving change to the homeless
S
Are you that kid that jump 50 homeless on a skateboard??
A
I could jump two homeless people maybe three, but asking me to jump this many is asking me to risk my life Kyle.
T
Hold my drywall and BANG.
K
Change???
M
I prefer Michael Jackson’s version of thriller.
W
The context is appreciated, thank you
W
Genuinely curious – how does this relate to the Dalit/ untouchables etc? Are these homeless people in a different caste? Or are they from a different caste? If an untouchable becomes a homeless person spreading spiritual messages, does he become a desirable? This is so interesting.
V
Two different systems. Those who followed गृहस्थ (house hold) life style were bound by hierarchy. Those who choose nomad lifestyle were outside of this hierarchy.
W
Thank you. So I’m guessing if you don’t follow the household system you’re like an unregistered person, who doesn’t get any benefits from the state and can’t signup for banking and phones etc? Or is it something that you can just choose not to follow? Do the nomads/“holy people” like the dude in the video a legit career? (I’m thinking Buddhist monks and the likes) and do they make a living from collecting money from their followers or they are more scavengers/hobos? Are they in a clear state of mind? Or do they have some sort of mental illness which is often found in people with similar appearance in the west?
V
>Thank you. So I’m guessing if you don’t follow the household system you’re like an unregistered person, who doesn’t get any benefits from the state and can’t signup for banking and phones etc? Or is it something that you can just choose not to follow? The government doesn’t care about any of that it’s social structure. Not mandated by law. >Are they in a clear state of mind? Or do they have some sort of mental illness which is often found in people with similar appearance in the west? Most nomads are not neuro typical. If you want to call them mentally ill it’s up to you.
D
> heirchy hierarchy?
V
Yes
T
So more religious nonsense.
J
India’s specialty
J
got Rick Rubin to follow them, so there must be *something* to it
R
It’s frying me that there’s a random white dude there too
A
You mean Rick Rubin?
S
Humans as species are all very much similar to one another and just because someone is of different ethnicity or culture doesn’t mean they are alien enough where they couldn’t overlap on these things.
R
You’re looking a little too deep into it lol. I’m not saying it doesn’t make sense for a white person to believe in that religion. The aesthetic dichotomy is just funny. Like looking at a Chinese yearbook where everyone has a traditional Chinese name, but then at the very bottom there’s some chick named Winifred.
B
Schizos in India are way more mild tempered than the ones in the US. Like they’re being told to plant flowers whereas Jake in the US is going on a multi-county chase with the sheriffs lol
F
It’s 8 in the morning and already enough Internet for today
C
We’ll see your first mistake was living in central time lol
P
Same mistake here.
K
I get it philosophically, but bowrrow a shower or something jesus christ.
S
Definitely Holy…Holy shit that stink
S
“If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him” any conceptualized image, idol, or fixed idea of “the Buddha” or “enlightenment” is a delusion that must be destroyed to achieve true, direct, and personal spiritual realization.
W
Looks like this ‘holy person’ might be chewing [betel nut](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Areca_nut), and homeboy picked up the spit cup. Gross.
M
So basically India is in the middle ages
D
The longer you go without bathing the more respect you command? Sorta starting to see how India wound up the way it did
F
I wonder how Diogenes would feel about the situation
N
Makes more sense then the people thinking god wants them to give the holy people all their money
N
That’s interesting. My friend visited India recently and was told differently. She was told not to help people like this in any way. People who are homeless and sick are not helped as it is viewed as their karma and that they must have done something to deserve it. She told me she saw people giving animals food/water, but so many people who needed help, missing limbs, ect, who no one was willing to give anything to. Is it different depending on where you are?
T
Two different things – this lady seems to be mentally unstable and has stayed there for a long enough time for people to recognize her and form a lore around her. Most other beggars though, including those handicapped, are part of huge network/gang. The leaders of these gangs deliberately kidnap, maim and drug people – including infants. They are also known to hound and pester foreigners/any naive person. Money given to them usually ends up funding more kidnappings/funding the mafia. The karma thing is just a story to sort of lessen the guilt as no one really is desensitized to their miserable state, but we have learned the hard way to not show any emotions.
T
Whats the context for the procession tho? Theres clearly crowds walking ahead of her and it looks like some kind of march/procession. Whats the purpose of this gathering?
M
I mean, if you extrapolate what the OOP said, they think they are holy, so are probably waiting for something to happen. What? I don’t know. A blessing or prayer, a sign, portent, or miracle probably.
C
Its like that scene in Forest Gump where Forest just starts running and people start running with him. When he stops and decides to go home the people are just like “what are we supposed to do now?”
D
As always, the true WTF is in the comments. … wait. Is that how it works? I think I got the letters wrong…
