Last week, I decided to tackle the overwhelming chaos that was my home office. As I was pulling out old papers, I stumbled upon an ancient stapler from the prehistoric era of the 1990s. Its bright floral design had faded to a sort of sad beige, and it still had a notably crusty piece of tape stuck underneath it. With one heroic push of the lever, I attempted to resurrect it. To my surprise, it worked! But instead of just stapling the stack of papers, it audibly clanked and shot staples across the room like a confetti cannon gone rogue.
I spent the next hour diving around my office dodging those staples like I was in a dramatic slow-motion action movie while trying (and failing) to explain to my cat why this random explosion was not a part of her daily turmoil. Every time I thought I’d found the last rogue staple, another one would whiz by my ear, making me feel like I was in a very unprofessional circus act. By the end of the chaos, my office looked like a paper explosion had occurred, and I couldn’t help but laugh at the irony: if I ever needed help organizing, I should’ve just asked my stapler to take it easy.
