Blue Crab industry is a big part of the culture down in MD. Its sort of their “thing” if you know what I mean? Like how jersey is known for our tomatoes. It’s a big part of that state’s identity. The Jersey Shore did irreparable damage to the reputation of NJ. So did Real Housewives. Most people dont realize thats a North Jersey stereotype either. South Jersey doesn’t have any of that bullshit lol.

The main way we eat crabs is whole steamed or in crab cakes. “Maryland crab soup” is just what we make with the leftovers of a crab feast. The main difference in taste with MD crabs vs the stuff you get from the gulf coast or Atlantic is that the Chesapeake bay has brackish water instead of pure salt water. I’m sure blue crabs on the Delaware River taste very similar, but I’m not too familiar
