Last Saturday, my friend Dave decided to impress everyone by attempting to grill burgers for the first time. He confidently lit the charcoal, but within minutes, the flames turned his backyard into a scene straight out of a cooking competition gone horribly wrong. In a panic, he dumped half a gallon of lighter fluid onto the fire—only to have it explode in a dazzling but terrifying fireball that sent us all diving for cover.
As we all emerged from our makeshift hiding spots, Dave dusted himself off, still grinning like a kid who just discovered a secret stash of candy. “Okay, who wants a burger?” he shouted, completely unfazed by the chaos. To this day, every time we gather for a BBQ, someone inevitably asks if we’re having “Dave’s Special” or if we should just stick to hot dogs. Who knew grilling could turn into a reality show episode of “Survivor: Backyard Edition”?
