I have had that exact firework. While it looks small and the hat muffles its sound and power, that things is literally an old school cherry bomb, not just some firecracker. I was wincing before it went off as I expected much worse results. The cranium is apparently incredibly strong.

Explosives only have real power when confined. The hat isn’t enough to keep the explosion in. I also assume his hair prevented most of the burn he would get. He’s lucky though, this could have gone worse.
