Gunfight in San Jose, California

That was an amazing decision by the officer driving. This guy was clearly out to kill.

Yea didn’t see that coming at all, honestly probably the safer option vs shooting back at the guy while he’s hiding behind cars with pedestrians with them… what if he just decided to start killing anyone?

damn, they way his body ‘jumped around’ while he was being shot on the ground

This dude had already shot a cop and was shooting this cop. They needed to take him out with all the pedestrians around. It’s gruesome in some way but dude didn’t give a fuck about anyone but him.

Ramming him with the car, yeah sure. Shooting him while he was incapacitated with civilian cars backstopping those shots seems questionable at best.

Devil’s advocate, not shooting him because he’s on the ground after being hit by a car puts other people at risk. If he’s potentially armed and able to shoot people, and has already shot others, he’s a risk to everyone around him.

1000% – people don’t realize it but even if this guy was already going to die, adrenaline would absolutely be able to enable him to pull a trigger a few times if he wanted to. And that’s assuming that ramming him with the car was actually effective and lethal instead of just moderately incapacitating

Yeah and add in any drugs possibly amplifying his system. Shit like meth, PCP or bath salts can easily keep you going a bit beyond death.

It looked like the perp was still shooting just after he’d been knocked down Obviously he couldn’t move to shoot properly but it does like like he fires at least 2 more shots

Devil’s advocate, anyone with a gun is a risk to everyone around them.

Yada yada and anyone with a car is a risk to everyone around them.

Is the sole designed purpose of a car to kill people?

L

He kept shooting while on the ground after he was run over.

That dude was definitely still a threat.

So move to an angle where the dirt is backstopping your shot and shoot from there. Or let someone else shoot, there were many officers further right who had a dirt mound as a backstop rather than cars.

They forgot the 4th rule of gun safety, but in the heat of a shootout, it’s hard to fault them. I do think it’s wild that those cars just sat there rubbernecking while a row of cops point their guns right at them.

No it isnt. These are suppose to be professional. Doing procedule and following gun safety in the heat of the moment, is suppose to be the point fo professionalism.

No one has any idea if he was incapacitated after getting run over. But yeah I’m super curious about the rules for shooting with civilian vehicles back there. The cop’s angle was probably safer than we can see.

I’m not sure it was the cops we see in the video shooting. There were other cops approaching from the top right of the video. From that angle, they wouldn’t have had any cars in the background for a much longer distance.

Mmmmm If that was me, I would want to be shot dead after getting hit by that car like that….just end the pain and suffering. Idk 🤷🏼‍♂️

It’s more the issue that it can ricochet and hit an innocent bystander.

>he was incapacitated That’s the key assumption. Apparently they didn’t assume he was until they shoot him. I’m not part of law enforcement so I’m not sure if it was the right call.

M

He was hit by an SUV. He was incapacitated.

Wrong

He’s still shooting on the ground if you watch it, I am never one to defend cops but I can’t see what other options they had. This guy was out to kill until his very last moments.

I found another video from a different angle. The guy had collapsed on in the ground already due to being shot multiple times (local newspaper article also confirms this) before the SUV ran him over and then they shot him another dozen times afterwards. The SUV and gunshots after were excessive.

What do you think?
