I get where you are coming from, but humans have been eating animals for food since prehistoric times. I don’t foresee that ending anytime soon. Also I only eat ethical free range cows that send you a picture of them frolicking in a wide open field. So no artificial babies or terrible conditions 🙂

Both, in today’s society, are only done for human pleasure. Also, I bet the free range cows were artificially inseminated. It’s industry standard so that the bulls don’t “damage” the property of the farmer. It’s sold as safer for the cow, and it might be, but we shouldn’t be forcibly impregnating them. Lastly, even if I were to accept all the conditions you laid out. Is it better to kill something well cared for? How do you ethically kill someone who does not want to die?

I guess you have various leaves, fruits, nuts, and water as an option. Just be aware. Plants do have feelings, and harvesting, say, a potato does kill the plant. And have you seen the montrosity that is a cherry picker?Talk about not considering a trees structure or livelihood! I’d also worry about contributing to a system that rapes the land and dehumanizes migrant workers, paying them pennies to harvest your almonds and avocados. Finally, please keep in mind thay animals too eat leaves, fruit, and nuts. Human overconsumption of these products can wreak havoc on the food supply for animals. And since all 8 billion would rely on this, I imagine there just might be some starvation issues, particulary in places where land is in limited supply – say, islands and fishing communities. Just be careful we’re not trading one tragedy (poor bulls!) for another (poor land! poor humans! poor hungry animals!)

One time, a vegan friend told me, “Veganism is the one area where individual effort can really impact the whole.” And I genuinely disagree that individual effort can do anything outside of a small local area, so I nonconfrontationally asked her to elaborate on how veganism is different. And she said, “If we all just stop eating meat, then the demand will plummet and the industry will fail.” Then I got a bit more confrontational.

I’d happily vote for a total overhaul of our food industry to cut out meat and make being vegan a more reasonable lifestyle. But I’m not eating shitty food that takes significantly more effort, costs magnitudes more, and is less healthy for me. We have to solve the capitalism problem before we can solve this one.

Nope, you make a choice 3 times a day to directly ask that someone’s body be comodified and exploited by you directly. There are major issues with capitalism and the hidden and drastic suffering it causes. If you stop demanding body parts, the market will stop creating them. This is not some downstream consequence, the suffering is what you are asking for when you purchase animal products. The other stuff is a skill issue. Try eating your animal products without vegan ingredients. They are what give the food flavor.
