What is this being developing in my home? Assistance needed to eliminate it!
in WTF
What kind of strange creature is growing in my home? I need help stopping it!

T
I’m guessing that you have a serious damp problem. Best thing to do is get some contractors out and get quotes for the work. Edit: Probably some kind of slime mold. You have a *serious* moisture management problem and should get it addressed ASAP as there may be other molds which can release harmful spores. As this has probably been going on for some time, your problems extend beyond the mold itself. You may well have structure that needs repaired as well due to wood rotting away. The cause? Unknown. Leaking roof, leaking pipe, humid environment, lack of proper ventilation, lack of heating, failed insulation leading to thermal bridging, possibly something else. You need a pro out. If you are lucky, insurance may meet some costs. Probably not though.
A
Given what I suspect are mold spots above this, I agree.
A
It actually looks like a shelf fungus forming to me… Like the ones out in the woods!
P
i wouldnt go one hour without addressing it if this ever started to happen to me
A
Yes .. this is the part of the mushroom you see, the part you don’t is probably the size of the entire wall
E
Second this. I grow alot of reshi, the fruiting bodies tend to look similar to this (different colour) before forming the bracket.
J
Looks like mold. And depending on the mold, thats gonna be very, very(!) expensive!
L
Also, I ‘m thinking at potential health issue.
C
Yeah, it’s not like this is hidden behind drywall, it’s just out in the open, growing, shedding spores.
M
The most interesting potential health issue is actually that a large amount of mold in a space can put off so much CO2 it can make the atmosphere toxic. I was out of town for 6 weeks one time and had a roof leak develop. Ceiling fell in and mold covered every surface in the kitchen and living room. Inspector/adjuster whatever measured CO2 at over 700ppm in the space!
T
Yeah, slime mold I think. Looking at the vid again I am pretty sure you can see on the wood traces of the spores being released.
B
Ex-property claims adjuster. Unfortunately, most insurance policies exclude mold because it doesn’t Happen over night. If it’s something that occurs over time, then it’s neglect and most companies use that as justification to not cover mold.
S
Exactly, remember what happened in Alien Covenant: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zRk04r4dj0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zRk04r4dj0)
T
No no no. Much more likely to be like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLNagvJHl3g
L
Tried to cut open one its hard and black in color looks like something is moving inside it ! https://imgur.com/a/rPwYx90 Really scared ! It’s spreading fast ! Can anyone please help with the name of this fungus ?
E
lol. Bro. You’re like: “it’s moving! It’s scary! Here, lemme handle it bare handed a lot!” It’s a bad case of mold. Wash your hands before you pick your nose.
M
This is always the Reddit way. Help what do I do? \- Get a professional in I tried to handle it myself and it got worse \- Get a professional in Guys it’s really bad, I’m not sure what to do \- Get a professional in I’ve tried something else I found online but I’m not sure it’s working \- Get a fucking professional in!!!
T
Go to the personalfinance sub. It’s getting *real* bad over there.
T
I got banned for asking someone their profession the mod claimed it was harassment lmao
T
I got the boot for telling someone they need to follow what people have been telling them and grow a bit of a spine if they want their money back.
T
The mods suck over there 😅
L
that subreddit is one of those places that makes me feel successful in life compared to the amount of fuck ups and people in absolutely awful situations of their own doing
C
Had a friend once that was trying to raise money at the end of the month. Turns out they bought a new TV after seeing more money in their account than they usually have and forgot that their rent was due in a week.
J
And you also have the infuriating version when it’s someone’s sick pet that clearly needs a vet but the jackasses just make up excuses, try and wait it out, or just disappear because they’re not being told what they want to hear.
K
I’m in a lot of pet subs and see this all the time. It’s so fucking sad. Nobody is forcing them to have a pet, if they can’t take care of it then don’t get a pet.
S
In all fairness, people’s circumstances can change – illness, job loss, etc. Vets will not treat without payment. That person’s options might be 1. Ask Reddit for educated opinions on treatment options or how emergent it is before moving on to 2. Bring the pet to an emergency vet and have it euthanized because they don’t have the funds to pay for emergency services.
K
I empathize, but there are more options than that. Most vets accept payment plans, such as CareCredit. You can get care now and pay over time. Alternatively, re-homing is a better option than euthanasia. Many people love their pets and don’t want to give them up, but giving them to someone who can take care of them is better than keeping and letting them suffer. There is sometimes a surrender fee to give your pet to a rescue, but it is cheaper than a vet.
S
Absolutely, but there are a few challenges there. Care Credit requires credit approval, and re-homing an animal is extremely difficult right now. Rescues are bursting at the seams and have no capacity, especially for cases requiring immediate placement.
P
It costs a lot of fucking money to get a pro in which a lot of people don’t have. Not saying they’re being smart about it, but I’d probably try to fix it myself before draining every cent I have and then some.
G
Sometimes some problems just aren’t fixable yourself no matter how tight your budget is This is one of those times Especially given if they dont get it fixed properly itll lead to a whole lot more money loss
B
Im sorry I ever doubted the alien movies as being unrealistic.
N
he’s behaving like the perfect Alien character, that every viewer would judge unbelievably stupid…
B
Haha, agreed. But I do like to try and spread the awareness with mold: 99.9% of the time it’s harmless and the vast, vast majority of any reactions that people report are mostly allergic-type reactions that people can have to lots of random things. Mold is not the Boogeyman it’s made out to be on the internet. It’s floating around in the air all the time around us in varying amounts.
O
not an expert but it could be some type of wood decay fungus, like brown or white rot. If so it is eating your house none of the molds that commonly cause health issues look like this, so i doubt it’ll make you sick, but it could be causing structural damage and theres probably other mold present. you need a professional to fix the moisture problem asap
T
Mold. Get professionals in, and not to just spray around fungicide. You need to check the roof, pipes, air bricks, HVAC, etc. All the furniture needs to come away/off the walls. Depending on damage, they may need replaced. The wall may also need significant repair, all depending on what has rotted away.
L
Man, you’re like, the first person to die in horror movies.
F
Have you tried putting it in rice
S
Why the fuck are you posting on reddit and not calling a professional
X
Dude, what the fuck.
I
Bwhahahahahahaha!!!! You’re the reason pandemics start.
A
Why do you put spaces before punctuation? STOP IT! https://media.giphy.com/media/KBaxHrT7rkeW5ma77z/giphy.gif
A
Need professional help not reddit.
P
> Probably some kind of slime mold Nethack (google it, whippersnappers!) taught me that these are perfectly edible.
D
Personally, I always try to write elbereth on the ground with the nearest tool whenever I feel anxious about the looming fog of war.
D
Hahaha +1 updoot for the Nethack reference. “Ulch – that Slime Mold was tainted!”
S
So you’ve been just looking at it grow all the time? Maybe give it another 2 months then
F
Gotta let it ripen
R
