A car bizarrely passing through the floor.

A vehicle passing through the ground without any obstruction.

It’s called the ground when it’s outside.

I predict that moments before impact, the horn of the General Lee car was heard and Waylon Jennings was commenting on the action while strumming some background guitar…

Do we have to do this again? The bottom of the ocean is called a floor. My basement is inside, but dirt, and that is the ground.

A

That is your ground floor, right?

F
FlashOfTheBlade77 • 7 points
no it is my below ground floor

He’s just quoting Ron Swanson from Parks and Rec

Maybe, but this is a big thing on Reddit for some reason, and most have nothing to do with Ron Swanson

That’s a good name – ground! I wonder if it will be friends with me?

It needs a big wide-sounding name like … ow … ound … round … ground! That’s it! That’s a good name—ground! I wonder if it will be friends with me?

Okay, but what if it’s a parking lot? Is that the ground or the floor?

C
CARmakazie • 30 points
Still ground.

S

But what if it’s a parking lot with a basement underneath it? And a floor above it? When exactly does the ground turn into a floor.

N
nanoray60 • 5 points
You can tell by the way it is

I
Ich_Liegen • 5 points
Then you are no longer outside.

P
protokhan • 4 points
If there’s a room above it and below it then you’re not outside anymore.

Wait, hold on. Everyone is saying this is outdoor, but I’d like to play devils advocate. A parking garage has multiple floors but no “walls” and is open air. I would consider that still outside. Another example is a gazebo or pavillion with a wooden floor. If you add another floor above it so that it’s a two story building, that second floor is now floor, but the ground floor is also floor. Both are still outside but have a floor. Id say the ground becomes a “floor” when it is a non-natural material. Concrete or dirt I’d consider ground still, but a metal, tile, or wooden would be a floor.
