How many Cristo statues like this are there in the world really? EDIT: So, because nobody was able to answer until now I did the work myself. Counting only the tall ones (above 20m) there are 29 in the world. Here’s the list: [https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste\_der\_h%C3%B6chsten\_Christusstatuen](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_der_h%C3%B6chsten_Christusstatuen)

Evidently one more than I was aware of.

Weirdly, the tallest one if you include the base is actually in the world’s largest Muslim country, Indonesia, and was actually built by the local government.

D

Not as weird as you might think, Jesus is pretty well respected in Islam (even if he’s not viewed as the son of God).

Islam is extremely utterly and absolutely against idolatry and is super ultra monotheistic. A giant statue of the son of God is about as sacrilegious as you can get. So no, it is actually kinda weird. Source: am muslim

I am Christian I was taught that all humans were the children of god and we refer to him as father. My priest is not happy that I call myself the son of god.

You think Jesus is the son of god?

W

No but Christians do

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christ_the_Redeemer_(statue) Look at the part that says “Similar structures”. Quite a few, though they vary in quality and exact likeness.

Bolivian here, the statue has stairs inside just for your knowledge.

See, that’s where these modern engineers are sheer *geniuses*. I thought stairs were for climbing.

Getting pretty liberal with “on top”…

Yeah, really expected the cat to be sitting on his head, a bit disappointing..

H
holyfire001202 • 32 points
Disappointing, but relieving, I was going to be worried about how it would get down.

G

It’d likely be fine. Most cats are so light and fluffy that their terminal velocity is low enough they can survive a fall from any height.

N
Nebuli2 • 9 points
There’s a pretty wide gap between surviving and being fine, though. Depending on what they landed on, they would very likely break their legs on impact.

T

There’s actually a middling height range that is more dangerous for them than greater heights because they can’t get their bodies positioned to slow their velocity in time to be safer. A jump to the ground from Jesus’ head versus from 20 feet would likely be safer.

What do you think?
