I was obviously not there, but it looks like she might just be bending over to adjust the leg bar. A lot of those types of leg extension machines have a pin you can pull out to adjust where on your shin the pad rests, depending on height. Or, she could be a dumbass.

It wasn’t to do curls, women like to use those machines to do hip thrusts for the glutes. She was raising it to put on her hip area. This isn’t the first time someone has made the same mistake on video.

The gym would be liable. It’s their responsibility to ensure the equipment is idiot proof. This looks like an old design of machine that should have been bolted down.

They might be liable, but also probably have a pretty good waiver in their membership agreement. People get hurt at gyms a lot, pulls, sprains, and even tears being part of life, and they probably have clauses about proper use of equipment. This could be a pretty muddy case.
