A few student projects showcased at a primary school in Uganda.

A surprising selection of student projects showcased at a Ugandan elementary school.

D
Context without needing to read an article. Wealthy people in Uganda are paying witch doctors to sacrifice children in a belief that it will make them even richer….
P
I thought you were joking or being satirical but you are actually correct. Crazy to think that this is a thing in 2025
Y
Uganda is a consistently strange place.
K
Ugandan “why are you gay” interview just proves it
[
Crazy but not illogical. Every generation starts with zero knowledge of the world. If the previous generation does not or can not teach them what they have learned, that new generation is set back. That’s why greed and superstitions never seem to die.
[
In the U.S., it would have been a drawing of a school shooting. Something American kids can relate to.
M
I’m gonna tell my spouse were doing this DINK thing all wrong.
S
Everyone focuses on the DI. These guys really know how to drive home the NK.
T
Double income Negative kids
G
They’re killing the other people’s kids?!
M
So says Wiki: Rural districts near Kampala, Uganda’s capital, have been badly affected by kidnappings of vulnerable people, children in particular, for sacrificial purposes.[3] It is a modern phenomenon that purports to be part of the country’s old custom, through the use of traditional medicine, which roughly 80% of people rely on.[4][5] In exposed communities, roadside posters, workshops, and alert systems have been erected to warn children and their families of the danger posed by witch doctors abducting for the purpose of child sacrifice.[6] Child sacrifice Generally, a witchdoctor will try other methods first to bring about change of a person’s misfortunes or desires using herbal remedies or animal sacrifices.[12] When change is not successful, resorting to child sacrifice is proposed because it is believed to be the most powerful.[7] When a child is sacrificed, the witch doctor and his accomplices will generally undertake the whole process.[4] This includes: the witch-hunt, the abduction, followed by the removal of certain body parts, the making of a potion and lastly if required the discarding of the child’s body.[4] One type of sacrifice is the removal of blood, which is then used in medicines or mixed with herbs.[12][4] It will be used in the place where success, healing or wealth is desired. In other cases, a child is buried under a building foundation, either dead or alive, or only their hands, feet and genitals to bring good luck to the new building.
I
Well duh. With no kids you’ve got no easy access sacrifices!
O
“Hello, Douglath!” Hey, Mr. Dink…
P
This is not da wae.
S
Dae do not no de wae.
P
Not bruddas, spit on them.
C
But we will teach dem da wae and in time dey will know da wae
L
They need to learn from the US where dying children is the business model no need for third party involvement.
R
Yeah the rich in the US prefer to indirectly use their shitty business practices to cause the death of children rather than paying some dude to kill them
_
That’s better. You _do_ see how that’s better, right?
R
100%
D
the only thing the US is teaching Ugandans is Homophobia
T
Hey that’s not true! We’re also teaching them to worship the almighty dollar!
N
Pretty sure the various judeo (islam, Christianity and Judaism)religious lot have that one firmly in the bank.
H
No, they specifically mean American Evangelists going there and funding campaigns against homosexuality in poor African countries in the late 2000s. They were never bastions of tolerance before, but after the campaigns there were often legal and political moves to further criminalise and restrict them.
D
May I recommend a [documentary ](https://youtu.be/wC8Yb4Sepqk?si=Qb9mC_JdSNclKb6s). It’s a decade old but it’s still happening. Title: God Loves Uganda
S
Wait, what?! In 2025?
L
Well it’s technically true, have you seen how expensive it is to raise a child?
B
I thought this was some weird joke like pizzagate or something. Jfc.
N
Oh so just regular capitalism then
D
Regular capitalism kills us all more slowly, by sacrificing our mental health and bodies on the altar of productivity.
N
Regular capitalism kills children everyday when their parents can’t provide food for them.
[
Can you point to *a single* example within the last 5 years of this happening in the US?
T
It’s a bit cherry picking to point to one of the wealthiest and most developed nations on the planet as a counter point. The post is about Uganda, which records thousands of starvation related deaths each year.
[
The above posters are clearly referring to western developed nations. They are very clearly not referring to Uganda when referencing “regular capitalism”. Blaming capitalism for Ugandan starvation would be like blaming the moon for not giving them enough cheese. Just completely incomprehensibly un related
T
I mean it’s a pretty well documented phenomenon that capitalism siphons resources from developing countries and creates an economic dependancy that disincentivizes investing in the public good. I’m not sure what “clear” vibe you’re getting, but thread OP said Uganda and nobody really said anything about the US.
N

[
So 0 children have died of starvation in the US.
B
Dying of starvation is challenging globally at this point with obvious (usually man-made) exceptions. More of the issue is malnutrition and lack of access to balanced diets and healthy, non-processed foods leading to the current childhood chronic disease and obesity epidemic.
D
Children who have died of starvation in the US are predominantly cases of parental neglect I would think. My family was piss poor growing up, and I didn’t starve… had no electricity, running water and for a few months no home (my dad’s parents graciously let us live with them for 1 month, thankfully my parents managed to secure an apartment before that month was up) but never starved.
[
*entirely* not predominantly. Food is incredibly abundant. In the US. Starvation to the point of death just doesn’t happen here.

> We handed our notes to the police. Awali is still a free man. My god
S
I guess “tell the police” is not actually a correct answer to “how can we stop this”.
A
I believe you have to make an alarm.
E
I think ‘make an alarm’ isn’t used the same way we would use it to imply construction of a device but as ‘make a fuss/noise’ (scream) so someone can hear them.
A
everyone is aware
S
I wasn’t, I assumed it meant to make some kind of whistle or noise making device
H
I suggest installing a whistle tip, go see my boy Bubb Rubb so you can go woo woooooo. Also, this post is sad and terrible.
