At a friend’s birthday dinner, I jokingly said that the dessert looked ‘like an accident I’d put in my mouth.’ I thought it was funny, right? But I didn’t realize the baker was sitting right across from me, and her face just… dropped. I panicked and tried to say it was supposed to be a compliment, but all I got back was a ‘Thanks for your honesty.’ Yikes.
