*Your Amazon shipment has been delayed*

I actually had a parts shipment at work get delayed a week and the notification from ups just said “the package is delayed due to a train derailment.” That was a new one for me

UPS sends a lot of trailers on rail. If it is more than 2 days by truck, they’ll usually send it by train.

And it also may be slightly bent.

Used to work for a large retail store. We had a shipment that never showed up, and turned out that a trailer had flipped over into the median in snowy conditions. A couple days later we were told that shipment would arrive (different truck/trailer) and that we were required to receive it and all the merchandise. The vast majority was all busted up and bent ( bicycle frames bent all up as an example).A lot actually had snow and ice embedded in the boxes too, so people must have been sent to transfer the merchandise into a roadworthy trailer, snow and all. Fun.

As a trucker…. Paschal Truck Lines can be massive morons

I was about to say this. I’ve worked supply chain for years and PTL drivers tend to be a special breed.

Looked like he was lining that up for a nice square hit.

On par with Swift, then?

I

I have heard Swift is the worst. Co-worker of mine who used to be a trucker told me SWIFT stands for Sure Wish I Finished Training.

There is a reason “Safety Driven” mentioned on truck, what they means is Safety Driven to hell.

S

That almost looks intentional

Most of the videos of people stopping on tracks look intentional, but this one even a little bit more.

Especially because he could have slapped it in reverse to avoid the train, plenty of space behind and a lot of time to get away from it. Panic is usually the worst way to make a decision.

I’m not sure it’d ever be a good idea to reverse your cab back into the path of the train. EDIT: I doubt anyone still sees this comment, but holy moly [case in point](https://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/1oka0vi/this_morning_in_the_netherlands_a_truck_got_stuck/). You could easily misjudge the distance and time required, there might be something in your no-zone preventing you from backing up, you might get caught on something (in this video it looks like the barrier got caught on the trailer, it could’ve been something that isn’t going to budge as easily), and there could be more trains coming on the other tracks. Once the driver has made it across the track, the trailer getting smashed is probably always a better option than risking the cab getting sideswiped directly. I’d only consider reversing if the driver is still on the tracks and there’s an obstruction in front of them.

That’s fair. It’s just astounding to me that they sat there for so long, train inching closer. Like, did they not see a TRAIN coming? If so, maybe they shouldn’t have a damn CDL (which I imagine they won’t after this).

I don’t know why or what led to being in that position in the first place, but I will say that the position at the end if they’re going to get hit is pretty near ideal from a no one dying or getting injured standpoint anyway.

My hometown. Bad intersection for people lacking brains. It happened more than once when I was a kid. One time it was an Ace hardware trailer at the same intersection and the trailer exploded. There were tools everywhere. Including screwdrivers stuck INTO trees.

Makes me feel sorry for those trees and the lamp pole.
