**Title:** Here’s another eye patch, the one I used to announce the unfortunate loss of my eye.
**What Happened:** It was a typical Saturday night when I decided to impress my friends by attempting to do a backflip into the pool. Spoiler alert: I hadn’t practiced. Instead of a graceful dive, I splashed down at an unfortunate angle, emerging gasping for air — and minus my right eye. The doctor assured me I could still live normally, despite my new pirate aesthetic. So, I proudly strutted around with an eye patch, which became the talk of the town. I even jokingly told people that it was the latest fashion statement and that I was just ahead of the curve!
**Why It’s Funny:** Imagine using an eye patch as a conversation starter! Every time someone commented on my stylish new accessory, I’d say, “Oh, this? Just a little reminder that life is unpredictable — and frankly, so are my gymnastics skills.” So now, I’m not just known as that guy who lost an eye; I’m that guy who turned a freak accident into a legendary tale, competing with my friends for the title of ‘Most Dramatic Pool Dive.’ Spoiler: I’ve totally won that one.

Unfortunately I moved countries, this happened when I was in Switzerland and since then I’ve moved back to Canada as I had to pay for this mistake financially, too.

I would at least try looking into it or running it by a lawyer for their opinion. They would tell you straight up if they think you have a shot at winning or not. Lawyers don’t get paid unless you do if you get the right lawyer. I mean there’s the physical loss, the financial loss due to work and the stress of it all. Hope you’re doing well in the aftermath.

The comic strip titled “Loss” was a sudden and unexpected four-panel tragedy where the female protagonist has just experienced a miscarriage. I don’t really follow the comic or creator drama, but I hear Tim Buckley is kind of an egotistical dick, and some people believe this serious turn in the comic was an inappropriate bid for attention. It’s based on something that he experienced in real life, but the memery doesn’t seem to have stopped him from publishing new content. tl;dr Google “loss comic.”

Adding to this, the sudden dark turn in a silly gamer comic was semi-biographical, based on a miscarriage that Buckley’s girlfriend suffered. He ended up leaving her because of it, rather vocally placed the blame on her, and referred to her as having a “poisonous womb.”

And consider: this is tame compared to some of the accusations that buckley has faced and basically admitted. We’re talking like, really bad shit. But it all happened in an era where the Internet was much much smaller and different. He would face like actual consequences for stuff he did today.

Yeah, it was also semi-pre social media. Like obviously Facebook and Twitter existed but web comics were self-contained to their website and their fans discussed it elsewhere (here, 4chan, digg, etc.). It just made it all hit different.

I feel like it’s difficult to really set the scene and to provide the context of the moment as to why this was such a thing. It’s really one of those ‘you had to be there’ moments. Like, the concept of self-hosted semi-autobiographical webcomics and their authors’ being nerd media personalities is in a very different place now. That and Buckley himself being such a lightning rod. Basically you can read it and intellectually understand what happened but it’s different than being in it at the time.

In this case the webcomic went from joking about normies to miscarriage in 2 strips, so it became internet famous

Tldr, loss is funny because before that point, the webcomic had been a light-hearted series about programming or something. Suddenly, the author decided that one of them should feature abortion. So not really the subject itself that’s funny, but rather the ridiculous tone shift and subsequent memes

If you heard about the Game company Bungie getting in hot water for their artist plagiarising (for the third time) textures for their upcoming game, one of the things that tipped off the original artist that it was ripped off rather than influenced by, was because one of the stolen textures has a Loss reference in it.

Actually kinda wild if you haven’t seen this before. I’m not 100% sure I understand the joke other than “is this loss” but it’s been around for ages and was huge a few years back. I’m right around 30, are you a good bit older or younger than I? My best guess is it may be a generational thing ( like 67)
