I decided to propose at my girlfriend’s birthday party because, you know, it seemed romantic and perfect. Everything was in place—the ring was secured, the cake was ready, even her friends were in on it. The moment came, and all eyes were on us. Just as I went down on one knee, she completely misinterpreted the moment and started to talk about how she thought one of her friends was going to propose. I froze there, ring in hand, while she went on for what felt like ages about how she’d definitely say yes to him. It was like a live comedy show, but I was just the punchline.
