The other day, I decided to return a kitchen gadget that promised to revolutionize my cooking but instead managed to turn my kitchen into a scene straight out of a horror movie. I contacted Amazon support for a refund, expecting a quick resolution. Instead, I found myself in a chat with a support agent who sounded like he was negotiating a peace treaty. “I understand your disappointment, but may I ask how this item has affected your culinary morale?” he typed, as if I had just declared war on my blender.
The more I tried to explain my plight about the “overzealous avocado slicer,” the more he seemed to escalate the situation. “Are you safe? Do you require assistance?” he asked, as I sat there laughing, picturing myself being rescued by a culinary SWAT team. In the end, I got my refund, but not before he asked if I would like to provide feedback on our “diplomatic exchange.” Now I’m just hoping my next kitchen gadget doesn’t require a United Nations resolution to operate!

I only requested a refund, but my Amazon support representative handled it as if it were a major crisis.

“We are all part of the Amazon” Ain’t that the truth lol. We are all part of the problem. 😂

Often times I get offered a credit to my Amazon account. (Prime member). Typically when I agree to the credit they tell me to keep the product especially if it’s something that costs more to ship back than it’s worth. It costs Amazon money to credit your bank account or credit card. I also call and don’t use text. More personal. I ask them what country they’re in. How’s the weather. Any plans for a Holiday. I’ve found that being polite, personnel and treating them like a person tends to get more help faster. It’s not a scam but rather treating another person who’s just doing their job as a person.

Your post: “treat people kindly” (I agree! I get better results that way!) The masses: (downvote) WTH, people? Reddit can be such a wasteland of depraved minds.

Not sure why you got down voted. I do this as well. I called Bell once in college because my dumb roommate agreed to extra tv channels when the tech set us up. I realized once we got our first bill so I talked to the person on the phone politely, explained the unfortunate situation and asked if there was anything they could do to help. The guy literally said “you know what, you’ve been polite about this, I’m going credit the account and give you an extra 6 month discount on top”. You won’t always get extra, but people appreciate when you’re polite. If I find myself becoming upset or angry, I always say “I’m sorry, I’m not angry at you, just at the situation”. They always understand.

I fully expected it to end with “I have disgraced my family, I shall of course perform harri-kiri”

I asked them a question the other day about import costs and they gave me £10 for the inconvenience of having to ask!

I think they’re being super kind over Christmas. They gave me £10 the other day for something which ended up being sort of my fault.

That has to be AI and not an actual human?
K
Since the payment was “Rs.501.85” which is Indian Rupees (about US$6), I’m going to guess it’s not AI, but somebody in an Indian call center

Actually Indian
