In Kenya, a man strolls with a Wi-Fi router balanced on his head, providing internet access to users for a charge.
in WTF
In an unusual move, a man in Kenya is wearing a Wi-Fi router on his head to offer internet access to users for a fee.

B
He looks like a skin on arc raiders
Z
Well now they have to add this skin.
I

r/arcraiders has been my top sub for the past months and I had to double check which sub I’m in now
L
Thank you for the chuckle
S
His pants aren’t tight enough.
H
People in Kenya already have internet service on their phones. He makes his money by undercutting the price. He goes to a crowded place and sells internet service to a dozen people while only paying his mobile carrier for one person. https://www.legit.ng/people/1695930-kenyan-man-wears-wifi-router-offers-service-small-amount-people-t-afford-data/

Once everyone is connected he moves to the next village.

Forget Batman, the real hero is NATman!
R
That or identity theft
A
Yep. Some of have accused him of that according to article
R
Even if he isn’t, is he doing anything to make sure the people who he gives his password to aren’t? The first lesson in IT Security 101 is don’t use untrusted networks.
B
Trivial to secure a network against internal attack, it just isn’t the default. The Internet is one giant untrusted network.
H
someone can use their phone as a hotspot and provide service for free to the others, the router man just can’t find out about it.
B
> The first lesson in IT Security 101 is don’t use untrusted networks. One of the actual cases where using a VPN is a good idea.
I
Wouldn’t that be a bit difficult with nearly every website using HTTPS?
R
Difficult? yes. Impossible? no. The problem is how people interact with the internet in an insecure way, like reusing passwords on sites that may not be using HTTPS correctly or at all. That’s also assuming the only attack vector here is internet traffic. Being on a LAN with unknown devices has its own laundry list of vulnerabilities that changes depending on what device you’re using.
I
> depending on what device you’re using. Almost certainly a cellphone, probably Android (iPhones are too expensive). Kind of designed with non-trustworthy WiFi networks in mind.
V
Speed must be atrocious
Q
According to your link, the dude is making the equivalent of approximately $4 USD a day.
O
That’s not a lot of money for brain cancer
M
I wonder how many ‘followers’ he got
V
This is like a hero from one punch man, class C
P
They may need to invent a D class, otherwise this guy is bottom C, even below Mumen Rider
S
I’ve heard of radiohead before, but this… 🫣
D
WHAT’S THE FREQUENCY, KENNETH?
N
Ba-dum tschhh
H
RouterHead
J
So you have a minute of internet until he walks out of range again
M
Then he charges you roaming fees.
K
He is the roaming fee personified
C
😄 Very true
R
I doubt you pay a fee and dont get what you paid for.
G
Just walk with him? Free internet and you get some exercise
S
Modern day pied piper
F
You pay him for it though. He (and others selling WiFi hotspot access who don’t wear it as a hat) will undercut phone companies because they can connect many people to one SIM card.
G
I 100% read for free and not for a fee
N
And a friend!
F
Just stalk him
E
Why is this in r/WTF?
P
Because it is W-ireless T-hrough F-ace
