It’s somewhat lovely.
in WTF
It’s somewhat surprising in its beauty.

G
“Kinda?” It’s straight up gorgeous.
R
I love it, but I hate the annoying music people feel they MUST add in order for the content to be engaging. Anybody have a source for the video without music?
B
My reddit devices default to muted and I’m grateful for it.
K
The song is “On the Nature of Daylight,” and is a fantastic composition. But I agree, this video would work with just the wind
B
And the whooping and cheering of the crazy storm chasers.
R
Mine too! I wanted to hear the wind 😔

Thanks! Anyone have it where it’s not a youtube short that you can’t hide all the buttons and text?

I watched it on several live streams at the same time, it was definitely an incredible tornado to watch! although it did grow and get quite scary and take out some property not long after this.
F
gorgeous and deadly. Has anyone ever tried to put a big explosive on the path with a remote detonator?
B
I am terrified of tornadoes and have long since held a contradictory fascination with them, respecting them for what they are. This is easily the most beautiful footage of one I’ve ever seen.
B
Yeah something about this particular tornado is less intimidating more mesmerizing. The eternal field of beautiful flowing grass doesn’t hurt lol
A
This is pretty tame for tornadoes. The scary ones are a mile wide, 300+ mph, and hit when it’s dark.
A
The one in Huntsville when I was much younger (89-91 era, unsure of the exact year) hit right as twilight began iirc. Almost got my dad too, he was at the police station taking a class to get points off his license. They all went to the gym and covered themselves in exercise mats. Tornado wiped out everything on that street except the police station (it did hit the kennels tho 😞).
A
And they look stationary.
C
Had me expecting the Windows start up sound.
B
The same can be said of the ocean for many people.”Respect the ocean” isn’t something thrown around because it’s beautiful, it’s because if you don’t, you’ll die.
V
Is because there is no debris in view yet, so no visible “dirtiness” or destruction to detract from its awesomeness. Also it’s just a smaller one, looks like an F-1.
B
It was an EF-3 tornado. https://www.siouxfallslive.com/news/south-dakota/weekend-tornado-near-gary-rated-ef-3-with-wind-speeds-150-mph Here’s Connor Croff’s livestream of the tornado: https://www.youtube.com/live/ZrmrAK4-mlM?si=AzaqmmI5myEl_2xd&t=8326

Daaaamn
R
That is the most insane tornado video I have ever seen. At 2:22:55 I can see where ancient people could see that as the birth of a dragon with how that stream was undulating like it was alive. Its the same time point as OP’s video I think, but the angle makes it look more biological i think.
G
Small doesn’t always mean they’re weak, on average smaller ones are weaker yeah but there have been some devastating small tornadoes with ef-5 wind speeds.
V
Good to know
R
I think its also the context and calmness of everything else around it. The sky in the background being nice and bright is the biggest thing for me.
V
Definitely
D
Yeah, it was not that big. There was a ton of storm chasers just casually filming it outside of their cars.
D
Literally everyone is the same way.
D
This one in particular has some amazing footage from various people
G
I’ve heard it’s true for almost everyone. People seeing them in person for the first time will freeze and stare and need to be reminded to get away
N
Same. I think some wold call it reverence? At least that’s what we do where i’m from (not a native English speaker).
S
Sammme. I used to count seconds to make sure the thunder wasn’t too long when I was a kid.
C
I just moved to the Midwest so God help me! 🌪️
T
Hi everyone 🙂 I’m the storm chaser/photographer who filmed this clip, and it’s definitely not fake. It was an EF3 near Clear Lake, South Dakota on 6/28/2025. I was just yards away from it from genesis and got extremely lucky I was able to stay in place as it went right by me and that it didn’t have deviant motion and come straight towards me. It ended up crossing the road immediately after this in front of me. Definitely the weirdest and coolest thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Check out my socials for more: @eye.of.ty
D
Could you upload the clip without the added music?
T
Here you go! https://www.youtube.com/shorts/-J9AT2HMiCo
R
The original upload doesn’t have it, so it’s probably easy enough to find.
S
Hi there! Why does it look like a smaller tornado eating the bigger one? Is there a name for this?
T
Sheathing is what I’ve heard it referred to as. The smaller one was called a rope.
Z
Not who you’re replying to, but also someone who knows a lot about tornadoes (at a nonprofessional level though, just an enthusiast). Basically, the “smaller” tornado is the visible main rotation, visible because the high winds of tornadoes cause condensation. However, the visible parts of tornadoes aren’t normally the entire vortex, and the actual windfield is wider than that. What I believe we are seeing here is that sheath is further condensation as those weaker outer winds spin around the main vortex, but goes away as the vortex strengthens and pulls itself inward, like a figure skater pulling their arms in while spinning. This also pulls in those outer winds and thus chokes off the outer condensation sheath. I hope I explained this clearly, I’m not at 100% today (recovering from food poisoning 😩)
S
Hi! This is so cool! It did seem to think about coming towards you in the middle of the video. It’s the first time I’ve observed “if it looks like it’s standing still, it’s heading for you” and then it turned again and went on its way. Absolutely beautiful.
D
How dangerous is the bendy straw??
P
This same system went on to drop one that finished about 10mi from my house. Far too close for me 🙂
J
Yeah this is incredible. Crazy how something so dangerous can also be so beautiful at the same time.
T
Am Floridian, feel this way about hurricanes and severe weather as well. Went for a park day yesterday and Google said it was”probably” wasn’t going to rain (FL in summer means it WILL rain, usually between 3 – 5 pm) and I took my umbrella “just in case”. We got absolutely dumped on for about an hour, raining so hard it danced in patterns across the lake we were standing next to, the kind of storm that really reminds you that no matter how hard you prepare or try, Mother Nature will always win. The upside is after storms is usually the most gorgeous sunset, rainbow, or clear weather you could ask for.
N
As someone who comes from Denmark, we can have harsh weather sometimes. But compared to what i experienced in the 1.5 months i was in the US, everything here pales in comparison.
B
I remember sitting in a hot tub watching a massive lightning storm inside the 5km high ash cloud from Eyjafjallajökull. The ash was headed southeast straight out to sea so it didn’t bother us none but it did ground most flight traffic across Europe for a bit. Craziest thing I ever seen.
S
Just like our love, so beautiful, yet, dangerous.
J
Goddamnit Megan Fox what are you doing here
