Last Saturday, I woke up with an itch on my head that felt like a tiny orchestra of ants was staging a marching parade. I tried everything to relieve the itch—scratching like a dog after a bath, washing my hair like it contained a secret poison, and even attempting to meditate my way through it. Just when I thought I might have to shave my head, I realized I’d been wearing a new beanie hat all day prior, and apparently, it was as breathable as a plastic bag.
Picture me, a wannabe trendsetter, sporting a beanie while my friends are flawlessly flaunting beach waves and stylish hairdos. Instead of striking a pose for the group photo, I was the one with a lopsided grin, frantically scratching my scalp like I was trying to get in touch with an alien civilization. It turns out I was more of a fashion faux pas than a fashion icon—living proof that sometimes, in the pursuit of style, you end up just looking ridiculous and desperately wishing for a good head scratch!

My scalp is itchy.

M
Damn, it’s crazy how much older he looks without it.

I know.. my boss has really bad hair loss. The guy is only like 39.. and he seems to have gone for a Copernicus hairstyle, but bald on top. I wish there was a way I could tell him to invest in a hair system.. he’d look like a new man and probably shave 10 years off his age.
T
He should shave his head. Source: My head
C
Secondary source: My head. You’re not going to make your hair look good, so just get rid of it.
C
Auxiliary source: My head.
M
And my ax- I mean head.
S
SMH my head. Grievances: My head.
B
I don’t know, Gimli. I always thought you had good hair.
D
Tertiary source: My bald bonce. First caught a glimpse of my thinning hair in a tinted bus window. Went straight home and buzzed the lot off. I was 25
S
Probably saved yourself years of anguish. My father is still holding onto his, he hates it and complains about it all the time yet doesnt do anything about it lol
S
The glow ups on r/bald should be an indication that it is the right choice for many people.
A
Essentially how it went for me, except mine was seeing my updated driver’s license photo. I even had a ponytail at the time, but hadn’t noticed just how far my hairline had receded at the front.
S
Supplemental source, my husband. First thing I did once we started dating was shave his head for him. He got a double whammy of the baldness gene from both his parents and started balding at 20 – there is no Rogaine strong enough to deal with that!

Bonus I no longer have to pay for haircuts Minus I am slowly accumulating scars due because of the lack of protection
S
But if you can make your hair look good, why wouldn’t you?
X
The wholesome r/bald is leaking
D
Every single dude that posts before and afters on there is a massive glow up. I haven’t seen anyone look worse after shaving it all off.
D
That’s because most people who look worse will definitely NOT post the pic on the Internet
F
Bet! I myself struggle with thinning hair and a receding hairline for the past years. For context I am m32, for now I can cover it up with combing my hair over but in the next years I will need to get bald.. sadly I have a enormous forhead and I don’t know if no hair would stretch that even further… idk what to do…
J
Trust me, everyone else knows your „secret“. Just go shave it man
S
I had always been under the impression it’s moreso just how much having so much hair missing but still holding on ages someone or makes them look worse, so even if they’re not suddenly crazy hot bald they still look *better* than what they were holding on to.
W
Be uglier and then realize the internet self selects for attractive people.
W
Yeah I can tell how lumpy and uneven my skull is just by feeling around up there. Fortunately I have good hair genes as neither of my grandfathers nor my father have experienced any significant hair loss
B
Unfortunately men inherit their balding genes from their mom. My dad has good hair genes, sadly my mom does not!
M
I remember hearing this growing up but it turns out that the genetic markers likely come from both biological parents. Thanks a lot, guys! Source: https://www.health.harvard.edu/a_to_z/hereditary-patterned-baldness-a-to-z
P
But it’s cold… lol
M
As a bald man I can say confidently that no one looks better bald than with hair. I started losing my hair in my early 20s and started buzzing/shaving it like everyone around me pressured me to do. And I hated it. I looked like a POW or worse – like Joe Rogan. It’s humiliating. Anyone who says otherwise is in denial. Finally decided that if I’m going to be an ugly rat bastard I’ll do it on my terms and have let the horseshoe grow out. It’s ugly – I know, but it’s my type of ugly and I’m embracing it. I rather look like David Crosby or Benjamin Franklin than Vin Diesel.
A
As another bald man, I disagree but respect your opinion. I didn’t look as good with a thick head of hair as I do shaved head, and certainly wasn’t as confident. I had tried lots of different hair cuts, products, cleaning regimens etc. never liked my hair and always wore hats
M
Eh to each his own, I definitely look better with my head shaved than I did with what I had left (and I still had decent coverage just a ton of recession). Its more the attitude and confidence I think, if thats what works for you and is comfortable go for it dude!

Mine is not too bad yet, just a little thin in the front, but I’m still following that sub. Such a wholesome group of people lifting each other up
S
And if anyone has doubts, head over to r/bald. As a woman, I’m blown away by how much better and younger balding men look when they shave it all off. It’s surprisingly sexy.
E
I did this and grew an epic beard to compensate!
T
It’s amazing how many guys with thinning hair never seem to think of this. My hair started thinning in my early twenties and I never really liked it so off it went
C
Everybody thinks of that. Its their worst nightmare.
K
And for valid reasons for some. My ex looked pretty bad bald, and it had him in an even deeper pit of despair than when he was just thinning. He eventually invested in a hair system and got all of his confidence, motivation, and unwarranted audacity back. He’s been thriving ever since.
C
You are right. Bald, just like any look, require certain features to look good. Some people look absolutely stunning after shaving thinning hair and its great to see it. Others look weird. While shaving is universally and upgrade over badly thinning hair, it doesnt mean people will look good.
C
Mine is getting rough, and my head looks like a fucking egg shaved. No bueno.
D
Same, mine started thinning when I was 18 and by time I had hit 20 it was off, couldn’t imagine anything different now. This is from a teenager that at the time found every way concievable to spike their hair. I see fellows nowadays that are wayyyyy past the point of denial.
T
My experience exactly.
P
As a 37 year old balding man. My hairline started receding at the end of high-school. I know I should just shave my head but its hard to let go of whats left of my hair.
B
Hair systems can be very good and not that expensive if you look around. Check out r/HairSystem. Generally they can’t come off like the one in the video until after 2 weeks, then you reapply. And you usually shave under it so it’s not itchy.
E
That dude’s piece must have a pretty thick underlay for it to flop down like that, and somehow stay in place. That’s wild.
S
It almost looks like he’s got a clip-in system, typically there’s some light adhesive and then the rest clips into your remaining hair. You’ll typically see more of the full adhesive w/ tape which are much like the guy above you is describing. Some tapes/systems I can go nearly a month between applications
S
Go check out r/bald. The sub is super supportive and helps people take that final dive and the glow up is incredible after people finally shave it all!!
H
I’m 37 and have been shaving my head for a few years now. Honestly, it’s very freeing. Downsides: cold breeze is now VERY cold. Wearing a hat is mandatory when outside.
N
So true. Those thin running caps are a must in the sun
R
It will look so much better! My husband shaves his head. He looks great.
P
I felt the same, but then I shaved and felt free. If you want, try a buzzed fade to begin with. It allowed me to see that I don’t have a horrible head shape and in fact look better.
_
“only like 39” I started balding at like 23. I’m 35 and very much bald on top.
