Navigating through a road collapse

2
How can someone even remotely think that was going to work out. Wow, lol.
S
That’s a one way road to trailer hell. Impossible for him to reverse out of there.
G
But still…there are other options than “well fuck, guess I’m just going to have to fall down the mountain”
P
hear me out: maybe just stop and not drive forward
S
Think I’d unhook the trailer and just boogie on out in the driving unit.
R
There’s not, like, a quick release button lol unless you wanna just stop at the turn, get out, unhook and leave your trailer on the road and say nope, I’ll keep my cab and y’all can deal with the rest (enjoy unemployment and being blacklisted from trucking for what could wind up being criminal negligence)
S
Nah, even after this accident he can still get a job with swift.

No, what he chose to do was to not call a towing company to help support his trailers while he drove them around this precarious cliff. He was dumb, but unhooking and just leaving it there would also be dumb.
S
Genuinely asking – what’s the difference? Either way the road is blocked until help arrives.
T
Loooooool quick release the trailer robin
T
As someone who has never driven a trailer he should have entered the turn at a high speed and drifted through
S
There’s that wall to his left. He could have had his load grind it THPS mode.
T
i bet these posers have never even landed an impossible 720 benihana kickflip into a wall stand while dragging a full trailer load of recalled samsung dishwashers
N
They do call flatbed trailers “skateboards.” I guess this is the reason why.
Y
Legend has it that truck is sliding to this very day
M
It was either that or try to reverse down the mountain and all the other turns that led them there.
A
I would have tried to maneuver back and forth to try to get the trailer positioned a foot or two to the left even if I had to scrape the guard rail on the left side, and if that didn’t work, I’d just park the thing and call in a mobile crane if possible to shift the trailer/load. Might be expensive, but not as expensive as what this guy did.
0
Either way you’re calling for a tow. May as well do it with load, truck, and trailer intact.
P
i don’t think trying to make it through was the right choice
S
They went back down the mountain the faster way.
S
Be weird if they landed at the spot where they should’ve taken a left.
F
The solution is to unhook and take up each trailer independent. Call protective services or get a crew in fast to do some traffic control as it will be sketch unhooking. Possible chance of some DOT fines but much better than this outcome. You will not be backing up with that rig.
S
There’s only 1 trailer
M
Park it, contract a smaller truck, make it the owner of the equipment’s problem.
G
The owner of the equipment didn’t force the trucking company to shift it all on one truck. The trucking company decided not to use a second truck, in order to make more profit. Just because a load is under the maximum allowed weight, doesn’t mean it’s suitable for the route (assuming the truck wasn’t overweight, which I’m not so sure)
S
Hank Hill did it
L
Only because bulldozer bill was there to stabilize the whole thing, I don’t think this guy has a Bill in the back.
Y
Ah yes, glad to hear the men getting there props. It’s not the same if you don’t have a Billdozer on your side.
V
While a terrible option (driving in reverse), are you somehow advocating for the “fall down the side of the mountain” option??
S
Truck drivers are quite capable of reversing down curvy mountain roads. Sometimes they need to get to a delivery up a hill where there is no turnaround and they back back down. It’s impressive as hell, but they can do it.
T
I read that as remote work and I was like well I guess they aren’t in an office but I don’t see how that is relevant. I’m gonna get my coffee.
I
Im wondering why this roas is not closed for trafic in the ford place

Because for general traffic it’s not an issue…only excruciatingly LONG vehicles such as this one that choose to disregard prior warning signs have issues getting around the bend. Natural selection people…it’s still a thing.

spell check my dude, use it

I do, but its set for different language 🙂

Caltrans near Mendocino: “State Route 175 between Hopland and Lakeport is limited to vehicles NOT OVER 39 feet in total length! Our contractor’s crew was out working on SR 175 yesterday afternoon when they saw this long truck trying to make it through a one-lane section of highway where a retaining wall is being built. Multiple signs are posted to warn truck drivers of this length restriction, but drivers continue to try to go through. Sometimes they simply get stuck, but others end up going over the embankment. This driver was not injured, but it must have been the ride of his life! Note that the audio of this video was edited to remove expletives of surprise from our crew. Please help spread the word: NO VEHICLES ALLOWED OVER 39′ IN LENGTH FROM HOPLAND TO LAKEPORT ON SR175.”

I’m in the U.K., I’ve just told my neighbours, and my cousin as she round for a visit. I’ll let my colleagues know on Monday morning, if it can wait.

I had quite the sensible chuckle reading that. Thanks

I’m actually here in the States but have no one nearby to tell that to. So I told my cat. He said Meow? I said, “That’s just the way it is.”

this is near clear lake CA. The roads are no joke and marked for a reason. Sadly the flatbeds in northern CA running lumber crash and pull stuff like this often. I ran across a OTR truck on a 30Foot king pin to axel road one winter “this was the only road with out chain restrictions”. I bet the tow company made a mint getting him UN-stuck and I could not imagine how many tickets he got from the CHP. That officer had the tape out measuring just how long his truck was.
