Last Saturday, I decided it was time to impress my friends with my culinary skills, motivated by a new fruit salad recipe I found online. I went to the store and gathered every colorful fruit I could find: pineapples, kiwis, starfruits—yes, I was a little overzealous. In my enthusiasm, I accidentally grabbed a bag of grapefruit instead of oranges. When the time came to present my masterpiece, I confidently set it down on the table, only to watch my friends sniff suspiciously at the overwhelming tang of bitterness wafting from the bowl.
Their expressions went from excitement to confusion, and then to what can only be described as “panic meets citrus assault.” As one friend tentatively tried a scoop, he winced, and his face crumpled like he’d just bitten into a lemon—an ironic twist given that I had attempted to create harmony with sweet fruits, yet here was a dish that could cure scurvy at ten paces! I couldn’t help but laugh as they blurted out fruit puns about the “a-peeling” experience. At least I ended the night with a memorable lesson: sometimes the most colorful salads can be seriously “grapeful.”

Painting a bowl of fruit is a very VERY common form of still life painting. Usually one of the first things practiced when learning to paint. The main joke is the reversal with the fruits painting naked people, instead of the usual standard which is the reverse (what? You don’t paint fruits naked?). Then There are little detail jokes like the pear being more abstract and the orange having a human woman fetish.
