When I agreed to go on a blind date with Mark, I never thought I’d confuse ‘casual’ with ‘just rolled out of bed.’ I showed up in an oversized hoodie and my favorite sweatpants, while he greeted me in a sharp suit. As he tried to make lighthearted conversation, I could feel my heart racing, mostly out of embarrassment. I fumbled over my words, shaking like a leaf as I realized I looked like a couch potato next to a fashion icon. Mid-sentence, I accidentally knocked over my drink, splattering both of us in what was supposed to be a romantic evening. As I apologized, I caught a glimpse of his amused smile, half expecting him to say, ‘Well, this went well.’
