She arrived prepared for the well-known Turkish ice cream tricks but received the standard service instead.

**What Happened:** Maria had always dreamed of trying the famous Turkish ice cream, mesmerized by videos of vendors performing tricks that included juggling scoops and stretching ice cream into fantastic shapes. So, when she visited a local spot known for its elaborate service, she plopped down, full of anticipation. But instead of the grand, theatrical show she expected, the vendor simply handed her a scoop of vanilla in a cup, barely making eye contact as he muttered “Here you go.”

**Why It’s Funny:** The letdown was almost dramatic; Maria looked around as if expecting a hidden camera to pop out any second. Her hopes for a magical ice cream experience had been dashed in seconds! The reality of her mundane vanilla scoop hit her harder than the chilly treat itself. As she chuckled at her own disappointment, she realized she would have to wait for her epic ice cream scene in another land—one where the scoopers had some flair—and she couldn’t help but tease her friends about her grand journey to flavorless mediocrity.

I mean, the entire point is to frustrate you, so this was actually an on-brand move.

The ice-cream guy knew perfectly well that the funniest thing to do at this point was just to hand her the ice-cream normally

Create a false sense of chaos, only to trick them with normalcy? Does sound turkish

My name is Turkish. Funny name for an Englishman, I know. My parents to be were on the same plane when it crashed. That’s how they met. They named me after the name of the plane. Not many people are named after a plane crash. That’s Tommy. He tells people he was named after a gun, but I know he was really named after a famous 19th century ballet dancer.

It was mostly the suddenness of it. It wasn’t that long after the Arab Spring, and was the first violent coup in Turkey in about 40 years at the time. There was also a period of time in which Erdogan was flying in Turkish airspace, and two jets had a shot ~~to shot~~ on the aircraft, and they didnt take it. Like it was performative, and the jets werent suppose to be there. I think that was the first sign that the coup wasn’t just a failure, but wasn’t on the up-and-up. It was the summer of 2016, so there wasn’t a whole lot of crazy shit going on all at once. Edit: It wasn’t that long in to the coup that opposition leadership was getting arrested, and the military at the presidential residency was there to defend against attack, not take him in. The whole thing collapsed rather quickly, which resulted in a very large purge of government officials.
