Snake eggs found in the pool filter—only to discover it was the entire snake, with the rest having decomposed.

Snake eggs found in the pool filter; it turned out the entire snake was there, but the remainder had decayed.

Everyone saying “clean your pool more often!!” Yall, summer just started in some places, and not everyone’s pool is open year round. If the snake got trapped right after the pool was closed for the off seasons, I think it would make perfect sense to find it like this upon opening the pool to get it ready for use in the on season

100% the case. Just warm enough to get it opened up and cleaned out.

That or sometimes you wake up and your skimmer box is full of salamanders. Though snake eggs and decomp would indicate that they likely hung out there for quite awhile.

Right? It’s July and we’re just now about to open ours because it’s been nonstop rain since June. I’m sure we’re gonna find some neat little presents too. Theirs was a little extra of a surprise lol.

Whoa, summer will be over in about 6 weeks.

R

6 more weeks of pool than someone who doesn’t have a pool. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Summer still hasn’t started here, and winter starts up again 2nd week of August.

It’s been a while since I owned a pool but when we did, we had a pool guy that would come every week, even during winter to maintain the water, filter, clear leaves and debris in the pool, and clear the skimmers. Do other people just forget about their pool completely when it’s not in use?

I’m up in the north east— that pool gets drained down, covered, all the water blown out of the filters and shut down. Otherwise it’ll all freeze and burst. Plus, having a pool boy costs way more than a couple hundred bucks of chemicals and a few hours of skimming.

True that, pool boys are expensive. The attorneys fees really get you, especially when you realize you have to pay for her attorney too. And its only years later when you realize what a sucker you truly were – you didn’t even have a pool!

Ah gotcha, yeah I’m in Texas

Yep, also in the NE and this is our routine. Though we open ours in May, can’t imagine being mid-July like the other person and still not have it open.

Glad it stopped raining. Don’t wanna get wet when swimming.

That would be lovely actually if it didn’t always accompany thunder and lightning.

Ah, good point. Life long southwesterner who has never had a pool, up until recently I had no idea that people had to close their pools for winter. I just never thought about it.

A friend of mine lives in an apartment that makes it a point to let the pool get as gross as possible in thr off season. They had issues with college kids trying to get in and use the pool on the off season and while things like a fence cant stop them algea and leaves and shit does the trick.

It wouldn’t have eggs that big if it were in there that long.

Why?

Opposite for me, it’s too hot to enjoy the pool. Goddamn water is over 100°, according to the panel.

Not to mention, you can do damage to your pipes if you *snake* your own drain.

> was the whole snake but the rest had decomposed. Uhhh… maaaybe you need to clean your pool filters a tad more often?

B
BlakeBoS • 712 points
It could have been discovered when opening the pool, Ive found many animals in various states of decomposition when opening pools. Not the Homeowner’s fault, well, except for when they intentionally leave openings in the cover

W

Pool has a safety cover, not sure how it made it in to begin with.

Snakes can be a little trickier, they can squeeze through much smaller spaces, sometimes through the hole in the skimmer lid. Sometimes covers aren’t tight enough as well. Bunnies, squirrels, cats, foxes, are usually kept oit by a well secured cover, but snakes/frogs are definitely more difficult to block. But at least with enough shock and filtering, you can clear it out. I would recommend backwashing your filter at least once, and of course adding another 6lbs of D.E. after that.

I used to work at a pool in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma. We had to have a special snake grabbing tool, because we’d find snakes in the pool nearly every morning. The worst was a 6ft diamondback…I made my boss get that one
