Snow Plows and Dogs

**What Happened:** On a snow-laden morning, the neighborhood was abuzz with the sight of a snowplow tackling the massive drifts outside. Meanwhile, a group of overzealous dogs spotted the shiny, roaring beast and, believing themselves to be the ultimate heroes, decided to chase it down. With tails wagging furiously and a mix of barks that sounded like battle cries, they dashed alongside the plow, clearly intent on conquering this mechanical foe. Little did they know that the snowplow had no interest in bending to their canine will—after all, it had a job to do!

**Why It’s Funny:** The ridiculousness of watching this parade of furry warriors valiantly trying to outpace a massive, grinding snow-removing machine was pure comedy gold. Their earnestness in barking at the machine as if it were their sworn enemy, while simultaneously losing ground as the plow steadily cleared the streets, created a sight so absurd that passersby couldn’t help but chuckle. It was like a canine version of “Rocky,” where the underdog (or rather, underdog pack) was hopelessly outmatched—only instead of a triumphant fight scene, we got a panting mass of fur and snow as they eventually flopped down in an exhausted heap, having lost the battle and their dignity, but gained a great story to tell at the dog park.

The lady filming didn’t seem to be in a big hurry to get them out

They didn’t seem in a big hurry to get out either. Most Dogs love snow!

My little half-Corgi will literally dive into big drifts of snow up to her ears, she loves it. I’ve never seen her so happy.

Same with my Blue Heeler. I was as excited to see her play around in it as she was to go diving into it. She must have begged me to take her out in the snow about 40 times yesterday

We had a whippet, you know short hair no fat. Hated the cold, could barely get her off the porch to do her business. Wife made a dog coat out of a towel and a shirt. If you put that on her she would jump into snow drifts and come out with mouthful of snow. You had to drag her back inside. I was wearing tons of layers and still freezing. This stupid coat made from an old towel was somehow magical.

There’s a bit of a difference between light powder to play and jump in and the heavy such that plows throw to the side. They probably didn’t seem in a big hurry to move because they quite literally couldn’t move. Edit: to address the morons below since I won’t waste the energy to reply to them each individually: A. I “don’t know snow”: Lol, I’ve lived in the NE US for most of my life, *and* I lived in Grand Forks, ND, for two years. I’ve seen, shoveled, and driven through more snow in my five decades than most of you will experience in your lifetimes, including the almost two feet we got just yesterday. B. That’s “light powder.” Sure, the stuff on the ground and sidewalks is light powder. But what does that powder become when it’s compacted by the plow and mixed with the ice, salt, and slush picked up off the street? Go stand to the side of a plow next time it pushes past you, and tell me how “light” it is. C. “Over dramatic redditor claiming ‘murder’ and ‘animal abuse.'” Learn to read – I said nothing of the sort. D. “The animals are fine. They weren’t freaking out.” They probably were fine; I never said they weren’t (see point C). But many dogs, particularly small dogs will freeze when faced with threatening stimulus, so their lack of external panic does not indicate comfort.

Just by looking at the snow you can tell it’s light and powdery, not wet slush. Source: Live in northern canada and shovelled my fair share of snow

This was originally posted on toronto sub. Can confirm that the dumping of snow we received was indeed light and fluffy. Source: Lives there.

the one saving grace to me shoveling 4 times yesterday lol. At least it was not the damp heavy stuff.

Yeah I was going to say this looks like Toronto. Although there was tons of snow yesterday it was super light and fluffy.

I used to work for a vet in the GTA, and every year we’d get cats brought in that got stuck in snowbanks by a plow Light or heavy snow didn’t matter, they all came in with a bunch of broken bones. We had to euthanize every single one because they were so badly injured. This video is obviously not bad, but snow gets fucking heavy

Yeah, some people just have to spin every situation into a negative one.

Yeah and both of their faces are out. She’s just going to have to pick him up. It’ll be okay. I think this is one of those times where it is okay to laugh for a minute.

Redditors like that dude are why people make fun of redditors. No fun allowed you must always be thinking: animal abuse they’re practically drowning in that dusting of snow!

This. Powdery, lightly packed now after the plow, but a little wiggling and they’ll be free.

As someone who lives in Maine, I can confirm, this is what we call *fresh powdah*. Very light and fluffy and easy to move.

I have a choice when it comes to being smothered by snow, and I choose light and fluffy. It’s the suffocation of a new generation.

A lot of other people that know less about dogs.

This is so not worth the argument, but you can literally see one of the dogs fully exposed heads and it really doesn’t seem freaked out in the slightest. Plenty of room to be panicking if that were the case. Sure they might be confused, but they aren’t trapped in carbonite

Snickering at the image you created in my head.

This was taken on my block. It was powder. Light powder. Even the snow plow was plowing powder everywhere. Nothing’s hardened yet or become slush in these areas as it was actively snowing powder and approx -10C

What do you think?
