The bluejay is really upset about me being here.

Bluejay is angry about my presence.

Robins will dive bomb you too if you get near a nest. We started putting out peanuts to attract Jays to our feeders. If we run out or forget to fill, they will sit out there and just scream until you come out and fill it. Birds are a lot smarter than we give them credit for.

Meanwhile I had an Eastern bluebird fight his reflection in my car sideview mirror all day every day for months, covering the driver side of my car in shit

I had a cardinal do that as well. Really annoying and he started scratching up the glass on the mirror too. Once I figured out what was happening I ended up putting a sock over the mirror whenever I parked at the house. Looked goofy as all get out, but worked for a year or so. Strange though, never had a problem with any other car parked there.

He never had a problem with the birds in any of the other mirrors, but there was something about the bird in your mirror he just didn’t like #angrybirds

One cardinal bashed itself bloody on my bedroom window when I was a kid.

We had a brown-headed cowbird sparring with one of our basement windows for several consecutive days. Took us a while to figure out what the hell that noise was coming from.

For a second I read Eastern as Epstein and I was like enough already.

>Birds are a lot smarter than we give them credit for. Blue jays actually are some of the smartest birds. They are members of the family Corvidae which also includes crows and ravens. Corvidae have the largest brains relative to body size of all birds

I had no idea they were of that family, that’s awesome!

You say this and yet they weren’t able to discern that leaving a juvenile robin in my backyard is a death sentence because of my 85lb dog.

See, that’s interesting too. We have a fenced in backyard for our dogs and rabbits will often make nests within it. Apparently it’s pretty common as they seem to recognize that the area is safe from most threats because of the dogs and they’re just willing to take their chances not being found by the dogs.

Yeah…lotta dead rabbits to my dogs name, lol.

We give out peanuts for the Blue Jays and Squirrels too. My wife works from home and her office window looks out where the feeders are. The Blue Jays have actually flown over and tapped on her office window a few times when she has been “late” with the peanut delivery.

The complex social interactions that bird has requires a certain level of intelligence

And a lot more annoying once you’ve realized one annoyed you…

My mom once came home to find her cat cowering in the front yard with a robin squawking at him. His head was covered with plucks of hair sticking up where the bird had pecked him. She said, “You tried to get into her nest, didn’t you? Serves you right”

I’ve been feeding pigeons in my garden for a few years now and they wait for me to get home from work, There’ll be like 10-15 pigeons sitting on my fence/roof when i pull up, I get home at the same time usually but if i ever get home early they aren’t there waiting

You comment reminded me of a tictok i saw the other day and i didnt know anericans had their own version of a robin. I was having a hard time picturing a european robin diving on people, lol

J
jbrady33 • 3 points
yep! vaguely similar coloring so it was named the same – totally different bird and temperament, They usually don’t dive at people, only aggressive when babies in nest. They will chase off everything (including Blue Jays) when nesting

They’re dicks. I had one a few summers back that kept divebombing my cat when I’d bring her out for her outside time. (She’s an older cat that likes to be outside, but I don’t want her to roam and fight and etc, so we only let her out with supervision.) Eventually, it decided to land on our porch banister and screech at me; I screeched back, and it apparently decided to relocate after that. 😅

you’ve managed to threaten & scare a bird away! good job

Had a bird dive bombing me at a restaurant once when I went out to smoke. After almost taking my nose off a couple times I screeched at it during another attempt, and it left me alone after that. No dumbass, I don’t care if you have babies or something out here. I’m just here to smoke, and I’m leaving after. Geez.

Not really a dick move for a bird to try to send a predator packing.

Agreed. I saw one snatch a chick from another bird’s nest.

What do you think?
