Ocular bubble following corneal transplant

Unexpected eye bubble following corneal transplant

C
Well, does the bubble move around?
A
Only if they are unlevel.
T
Yup, you’re meant to lie flat on your back for a few days while the bubble does its job, so it doesn’t move out of position.
I
I… can’t tell if joke
T
Guy I replied to was joking, my comment was real.
U
It’s definitely real, my mother had a macular hole fixed in her eye and had to have her head down constantly for a few daysv
C
Preferably on a building site.
T
Great time to learn braille
D
LMAO
S
Yes. And it’s annoying and gave me lots of vertigo and nausea. I didn’t have a cornea replacement but a similar process is used for a detached retina. Air or water or oil. The first two dissipate on their own. The oil requires a second procedure to remove it
T
Oh hey, I’m on a waiting list for a corneal transplant, but a different kind to this. The bubble disappears after a few days, it’s just there to keep it all in the right place initially for a partial transplant.
I
Oh jeez that’s nice to hear. I was concerned it was like ocular compartment syndrome or something 😭😭😭
P
I had a rupture in my cornea and one of the treatment options to avoid a transplant was to have an air bubble injected to promote healing. As part of the treatment I would have had to lay flat on my back for three days with only breaks to use the bathroom basically. I had a toddler at the time and wasn’t confident I could lay still on my back that long and elected getting a transplant. My corneal transplant did not have an air bubble.
G
that’s normal and intentional btw (It’s probably a posterior lamellar transplant, aka, the surgeon only transplants a thin membrana in the internal part of the cornea; the bubble help press the membrane into the cornea and holds it in place. It goes away in 24-48h)
L
So they can check shelves are straight now?
F
Just need to add a quart of blinker fluid.
S
Forever fisheye lens
S
Imagine walking around and everything looks like an early 2000’s rap video.
O
Does it hurt? Is vision all weird out that eye?
S
Or maybe it tickles. That would almost be worse than pain.
O
Itchy ftw
S
Ugh, yes. I just had eye surgery and the pain was fine. They give you drops for that. But if it starts to itch, it’s tough, because you’re not supposed to touch your eye at all for like a month.
T
The vision will be bad at best until after the bubble has dissipated anyway.
G
It was sore from the operation for a few days, and it is dried out from all the Eyedrops I have to use post.op.
C
My dad had one of these a few months ago. Went from 50/20 to 25/20 vision. It’s actually insane. He is so happy about it.
S
A relative of mine had a corneal transplant and got the eye bubble. It’s supposed to hold it all together while things heal. They had to spend the next couple of days lying flat on the couch, staring at the ceiling, with only short bathroom breaks. Sounds annoying, but it’s actually an improvement – in years past, they would have had to get eyeball stitches.
B
At least now they can tell when they’re laying perfectly flat.
S
I have put that in my will that in my death.Whatever organs can be used , including cornea skin , you know , whatever. I think it’s awesome that people do this and help others like you see hang in there. We’ll pray for you. The doctors can do wonders now.
J
Get the credit card and push it to the edge until it disappears.
H
I would hate that
M
Reminds me of Taco Bell eyes
D
Makes my eyes hurt looking at it
S
Soon on /r/popping ?
R
😳
D
If you got it at Best Buy, you can go back and get it pushed out.
A
The bubble in the opposite direction, look up it goes to the bottom of your vision. Look down and it’ll go up. I’ve had it done twice.
A
That is one beautiful eye
F
No.
T
Take a needle and pop it, release the air.
G
That would be insanely stupid. It’s there to push the new tissues up in place.
