hello everyone, todays question says : how can we protect the bees.

T

Beekeeper here – this is extremely irresponsible. A sting to an eye is a critical health situation where you 20-30 minutes to get treated before permanent blindness. A sting to the face can result in swelling that can close the sinuses. A sting to the upper neck can result in swelling which closes the throat. Yes the bees are docile. But bees can be weird and something innocuous can piss a few off. I have been working my hives and everything is fine, then bam a few of the little shits decide to go kamikaze on me.

My entomology prof used to let one student a semester brave enough do this wear a bee beard. They used to do it for charity, but still, I’m glad I passed on that one.

Does your warning about eyes also apply to a yellow jacket sting? I pissed off a group of yellow jackets once, and they started attacking my eyes. It was scary.

T

Any insect that stings. Direct venom to the eye is a critical situation

I am assuming that when someone gets stung they tend to flinch/shake/flail, do you think if that happened it would startle a few of the others to sting too? My friend had bee boxes a few years back, she would mark the queen with special markers so it had a bright color on the thorax!

Eh, they’re not that aggressive. There’s really no scenario where they all try to sting you at once.

What do you think?
