I used to tell my kids I made Chupacabra Enchiladas, mostly just because I liked saying it. They were chicken enchiladas, but the kids were young, so who cares, right? One day my daughter came home from 1st grade and wouldn’t speak to me. The teacher had asked each of the kids what their favorite thing their parents made for dinner was. She had no idea what a Chupacabra was. The teacher explained it, but she left out the fact that they were as real as Bigfoot. My daughter thought they were rare and I was serving them what was basically endangered wildlife for dinner. When I explained they were only chicken, not Chupacabra she was relieved, but she was obviously a bit disappointed as well because it was not at all exotic.

Lol that reminds me of my dad, who was a fisherman, telling me that he’d caught a mermaid one time in his net. He described it and everything. Cue me entering first grade and I told the WHOLE FUCKING CLASS one day. Like it was some sort of class thing where everyone went around the room saying something about what their parents did or something. Anyway, I was laughed at and the teacher told me mermaids didn’t exist and I shouldn’t lie. I tearfully defended my father’s honour saying I wasn’t lying and it was true! I can’t remember what happened after since this was like 30 years ago but I’m sure it ended with me sitting at my desk and crying because no one believed me. Dammit Dad!
A
this is hilarious I love it 😂
A
Hilariously adorable. I wonder how long that would have lasted otherwise? Apparently my mother still thought they put the holes in Cheerios at a separate facility because it’s what her father used to say. I had to break to her a few years ago, when we passed a certain building, that “no, they do not do that; they just make them as rings in the first place.”
S
You’re a good parent x
A
When I was a little kid (like 5) I had just learned about chupacabra (from one of those cryptid shows on animal planet or something) and was terrified of them. Like a month later I saw a mangey coyote in my grandparents back yard and lived in fear of chupacabras for yeeeaars. It wasn’t until I was in high school and learned what mange was that I realized I probably just saw a mangey coyote lol
A
Animal X?
F
My first google search showed it as a chupacabra and I was really freaked out, never heard of this creature! I really like all the misspellings of it here. Chupacabre, chupucabra, and my personal favorite comment so far: Chupacabra Enchiladas!! Oh and my hubby took this pic and wants credit! Good job honey!
E
Ah, chupathingy.
G
Chupa-thingy
R
Got a nice ring to it!
[
Chupacabra with an automatic weapon
O
Survived a fire, somewhat?
[
Pretty sure its a Chupacabra, ok move along folks.
U
Is op in Mexico? They are all over Mexico.
E
Coyote with mange, thank you
C
poor coyote, hope they trapped it to treat
F
No it’s long gone i hope. They said difficult to treat, let nature take its course.
H
I lived in rural Texas for a bit. Locals said they’re obligated to kill coyotes that are seen around during the day. I figured that was standard everywhere
F
No lots of wildlife is out and about in Fl every day including coyotes.
S
The iguanas are assholes. Can’t really blame them though
T
Except for when it gets cold and they rain down from the trees
C
It rain Iguanas when it gets cold??? Terrifying.
M
[The National Weather Service in Miami has warned of possible falling iguanas this week](https://www.reddit.com/r/weather/comments/kiewrf/the_national_weather_service_in_miami_has_warned/)
R
And if you leave them alone, they’ll leave you alone. Though FWC [has a whole section on hazing coyotes ](https://myfwc.com/conservation/you-conserve/wildlife/coyotes/) so that they maintain a fear of people.
M
I know this is going to get lost in the comments but… One day I was house sitting my parents house with a lady friend of mine. We were in bed at maybe 10pm watching a show or something, and suddenly a coyote fucking HOWLED literally outside our bedroom door (sliding glass door). I jumped out of bed (naked), slammed that door open and SPRINTED after the coyote absolutely screaming at the top of my lungs. My parents have not had a single coyote in their yard in 6 years.
R
I guess that’s pretty good evidence hazing coyotes is a thing that actually works!
F
Holy fk. That would scare the crap out of me. And hearing the coyote as well…
J
Psychopath behavior, love it lol, no way in hell I’d do that without a gun. Not saying I’d shoot it, but a gunshot is just way louder than I can scream, and I’d rather not be unarmed if the coyote calls my bluff. I almost feel bad for the coyote in your story, being chased by a naked screaming man sounds terrifying.
M
Haha coyotes are cowards fortunately.
B
Someone I follow on Instagram who lives in Florida just posted a story the other day of a black bear strolling through their neighbors yard
F
Yup they are around although i have never seen one.
D
You haven’t seen a bear in FL? Ive probably seen a bear in +20 FL cities. From outside Jax to outside Naples and everywhere in between. Do you live in the heart of Miami-Dade?
F
No always S Fl.
F
A very cute healthy racoon visited today at 1pm!
M
Why would you be obligated to kill coyotes in the day? We see them out in the late morning and early evening all the time.
A
The ones that lose their fear of humans become prone to coming right onto farms and killing livestock, or into peoples yards and killing their pet dogs or cats, or even attacking dogs on leashes while theyre being walked (not even to mention the potential of them attacking human children) They get ridiculously, stupidly bold and brazen
