Time to get rabies shot! Also that beagle got clapped. Or is that a basshound?

C
CrypticPanda117 • 380 points
A basset hound, I think.

V

Not quite as droopy though, and legs too long. Could be a Bagle Hound.

S

wow i thought you were joking because bagle hound sounds like a made up thing, but it’s a real breed; cross between a basset hound and a beagle. TIL… bagle hounds.

I’ve been poisoned by Community. I pronounced that as Baggle Hound in my head.

First stop doctor, get rabies shot, second stop vet, get rabies shot (if this is the US maybe the vet has a 2 for 1 deal and he can save some money on a doctor; so maybe go to the vet first)

I could be wrong/speaking from the perspective of a responsible dog owner, but most household pets in the US are given the rabies vaccine as part of their regular immunization schedule, so the dogs should be fine. Probably a good idea to get them checked for infection and get some antibiotics, though.

Even if your dog is vaccinated (which it should be), it’s still recommended to get a rabies booster if bitten by a suspected rabid animal.

L

That’s good to know. If my dog got bit, I would definitely take them to the vet, but infection would be a bigger concern than rabies right off the bat.

I get it, but even a fairly advanced wound infection can be treated effectively. [Rabies is a death sentence.](https://www.reddit.com/r/copypasta/comments/7qwtd5/rabies_is_scary/) Fortunately you should be able to handle both at once with a single visit to a veterinarian

I was told if my dogs ever had a possible exposure to bring them in because unless they JUST had their shot they would give them another booster. My vet reminds me every time they get their boosters.

Assuming they’re a good pet owner, yes. Unfortunately, many are not.

US and save money on a doctor in the same sentence?

C
conquer69 • 70 points
Yes, by not going to the doctor and getting the rabies shot at the vet.

M
montsegur • 102 points
Well yeah, technically the US is the only developed country where you can save money on a doctor. Can’t save money if it’s free anyway.

S
Sharin_the_Groove • 7 points
I think that’s why he’s suggesting go to the vet first… Because it should actually be considered.

L

Third stop gun store for 410 shotgun.

B
B_D_Hadel • 6 points
Dog should be fine, most states require yearly rabies vaccine.

G
georgke • 11 points
Not sure if it works different for dogs, but a human vaccinated for rabies still needs to get 2 addtional shots after a suspected bite to make absolutely sure you don’t get it.

C

Grey squirrels don’t typically get rabies or transmit it to humans. Bites by rodents are treated with a tetanus shot.

What do you think?
