Wood Ants Take on an Elephant Hawk-moth Caterpillar

S
Ants are literally doing a 40 man raid in WoW IRL
T
MORE DOTS MORE DOTS
H
Now hit it slowly… … and by slow I mean FUCKING slow
B
Now, hit it very hard and very fast
T
What the FUCK WAS THAT!?!!!!
S
Okay stop the dots…
S

L

S
WHELPS LEFT SIDE, EVEN SIDE MANY WHELPS!
D
Now heal me.
C
LEEEEEEROY JENKINS!
C

J
they are just holding him in place until Leroy gets here
M
“What do you think Abduhl can you give me a number crunch real quick?” “Uhh Im coming up with about 32.33 repeating,of course, Percentage of survival.”
I
Time’s up, let’s do this
O
Leeeeeeroooooyyyyyyyyy Mmmmmmjenkins!
W
That’s better than we usually do
T
Ghun raid looks different than I remember
L
Clear coms!
Q
I heard the ants are trying runescape now
S
It’s a lime hawkmoth (thought I was on r/whatisthisbug for a minute there). Poor thing.
H
Ah yes you’re right! My bad, thanks for correction.
A
Did you help the caterpillar?
I
The Prime Directive, man…

Yeah, I understand the ecology. Something tells me the ants wouldn’t starve. But if the caterpillar is getting swarmed, put it out of its misery and the ants still get their meal.
J
And deprived the ants? Something’s got to die, might as well be something beautiful 👹
G
That’s nature for you.
T
I remember reading that scientists think insects don’t feel pain. Is that still the understanding? Because this dude definitely understands pain.
J
They don’t feel pain as we think of it. It’s not a complex series of nerve endings communicating with the brain. But it’s silly to assert that insects don’t experience aversive stimuli. Very few organisms would survive otherwise, because they just wouldn’t react to being damaged.
S
this gave me pikmin vibes so bad…
D
Swarm type predation is always so hard to watch. Poor little worm is staring down the barrel of a miserable end.
M
Yeah, but the moment hornworms start getting your tomatoes, you’ll be like, “fuck them.”
H
Exactly where I am with them. They’re huge, gross, a massive pain in the ass to remove, and they’ll fuck your tomatoes plants up for real.
M
One of my favorite reels is someone throwing them to his chickens. JURASSIC PARK FOR YOU, MOTHERFUCKER!
H
If I could trust them to leave the plants alone (and if I could keep them) that would be my answer to eradicating them.
Z
But that’s not a hornworm? Hornworms also rurnt me, but not enough to carry hate for all caterpillars lol
S
Thats why i let nature do its thing aka me helping out instead of filming 😉
Z
Shovel on more ants! Place it right on the any colony’s entrance!
D
I don’t understand, what could you do to help out (help who?) and why is that activity exclusive to filming?
N
Probably just smash the caterpillar, ants get to eat, it gets to die quickly.
D
How is that letting nature do its thing?
W
Human *nature* to get involved
D
Hah well then I guess my 7 nanometer microprocessor is natural too, given that extremely permissive definition of natural that makes the word completely redundant.
N
Ants are going to kill it slowly right? Put it out of it’s misery, let the ants have their lunch.
D
That’s not letting nature do it’s thing.
F
You calling me unnatural?
J
I would have defo saved that caterpillar
T
Ants gotta eat.
T
They’re definitely already eating, the loss of a caterpillar won’t be a setback for them
